Travis of the Cosmos wrote:So you guys Liverpool won the premier league today for the first time in 30 years. It’s kind of like if the tigers won the World Series..... except they were up 3-0 in the series and up 7-0 in game 4 in the 8th inning and then the game was delayed for three months.
And if they changed all the rules to allow it to happen.
But congratulations on winning Championship* in the post-back pass rule era.

Why would there be an asterisk? Did the season get shortened? Are games shorter? This season will serve as an odd one for the virus but they had the largest lead up until the virus put a delay on things and secured the title faster than any team ever. It's TBD if they break Man City's points record. Good try Miami :)

Pretty simple, because the league didn't finish under the same rules that it started. That's never happened. 3 months off in the middle of the season, never happened before. 5 subs allowed, never happened before. No fans, never happened before. It isn't the same game that started the season, so how can there not be an asterisk? It is the biggest asterisk in the history of the top flight of English football.
But congratulations*.

technically au they were not but they had it sealed up almost completely statistically speaking. I am not mad, put an asterisk there, still feels better than no championship at all, toughest test in the history of the EPL given the circumstances to be honest

Where did I ever say that it is not deserved? Where did I ever say that they wouldn't have won it otherwise? I'm just saying, which is not arguable, that the season was (will be) finished with everyone playing a very different game than how it was started. You guys are the ones interpreting an asterisk as a deligitimization of the title.

Unfortunately soccer did not start in 1992.
But regardless, no one can top Liverpool’s current streak of 1 in a row

Of course not. You see, unlike most here (unless maybe if Heathens pops in), I actually remember the dark days of Liverpool winning the old First Division, back when a goalie could pick up a backpass. The PL it is just a measure of the modern era.
But if you'd like to talk overall, just so you get closer, ok.

I'd say the modern era started when VAR started IMO . We'll start the tally then.

You can bet with online sportsbooks legally in CO now... so much better than the offshore experience.
Does Liverpool give a shit today? Man U vs West Ham? Travis/Matty/Miami - who do we like?!

Re: Warning, this thread is for soccer (more like Travis and Matty Liverpool chat)
Liverpool get the trophy at the end of the game so they might have a bit more incentive to do something as opposed to the last few games where they’ve sort of checked out on the season, but who knows how much that is really worth. And Chelsea could use points. Probably wouldn’t touch it tbh because of the unknown on if Liverpool give a shit or if they’re already half drunk by gametime.
West ham is safe from relegation and playing for nothing while Man U still needs to qualify for the champions league, so incentive wise Man U has a bit of an advantage there. I’ll leave it to Miami as to how they’ve been playing lately, haven’t watched.

We've run out of gas. Just dog tired at this point.
But apparently OTPT bet on United and Chelsea, so that input doesn't matter now.

If you like drama around your team, with your manager fighting with players, fighting with the media, being an asshole, sacrificing wins to make a point to the owners/board, playing defensive, making excuses, blaming everyone but himself for losses, and all around sucking the joy out of the game, then Tottenham is for you...at least for the next 18 months (it is a long standing pattern with Jose Mourinho, over his last 5 jobs).
Beyond that, they're generally one of the top 6 teams in England, but not a real threat to win the league barring some good fortune, so you won't be called a bandwagoner. But they will usually be decent, and maybe win a league or FA Cup.

The drama sounds fun. I have no clue what exciting soccer looks like so I'm not sure how enjoyable it will be for me. I'm gonna call them my team unless I'm completely bored to tears.

Spartan Dawg Jay Chapman getting a surprise start for the 1-6 Inter Miami Fighting Beckhams, coming up shortly on FS1. He's only played 1 or 2 games as a sub, I think.
It won't be a regular starting spot, however, with Blaise Matuidi coming in at that position and available to play by next week (currently in MLS mandated 10 day quarantine).
