Sad that this is no longer the case in this country. We now have a government merrily riding down the slippery slope to authoritarianism and half of this country is standing on the sidelines cheering it on.

Are we talking about DHS here? Because I’d love to have a conversation about the mess that is the Patriot act and homeland security.

Yes. Sounds like they're doing everything in their power to violate the people's 4th Amendment rights and the guy in charge is pushing it in the name of law and order.

They have been a bloated mess since inception. The patriot act is way too broad and was passed in a time of fear and is outdated. It needs some major overhaul. DHS has a mission that is just ripe to become a personal army for the executive branch and it has been warned about since at least 2012. Honestly the whole thing should be abolished. But government doesn’t work that way. It never relinquishes power, only accumulates it. Joe Biden certainly won’t be the president to take it on. It’s scary and wasteful. You’d think reigning it in would be a priority for fiscal hawks but they are too often hawks on social programs and not “security”.
