MSU Campus Squirrels might not be what they seem in the future.

My brother-in-law who retired to The UP decided it was a good idea to feed the squirrels that would come to the window so he started leaving a broken cookie, crackers that had gone stale, a bread crust….

First he discovered they communicate because there were a helluva lot more squirrels than were there previously. Then he discovered they liked chewing the power cord to his electric smoker and the coax that ran to his Direct TV dish.

Squirrels are cute. Cute vermin that should watched from a distance.

I shoot them in the butt with my under powered by gun to get them off my bird feeders. They jump like a foot then scurry away for a couple days or so.

Grandpa use to sit on his porch with a lever .22 Marlin chasing (sometimes killing) chipmunks away from his garden.  Was Up North a couple weeks every summer with a Crossman BB/pellet gun and he could relax.

Parents had friends that lived near Port Huron when I was a kid.  Nice house that backed up to the woods...lot of squirrels.  Guy got tired of squirrels going to the bird feeder so wired it to a doorbell button in the house.  Push the button and squirrels got jolted off.  Didn't kill them but they were disoriented when they hit the ground.

That little jolt is going to be more effective overall than a pellet, bb, or .22. It won’t take long for them to learn the feeder isn’t a happy place to be.

I knew a guy who did the same thing. He REALLY enjoyed it though. Weirdo. Looking back, just another warning sign. (he homeschooled his kids to avoid social interaction and vaccines BEFORE the pandemic)

Keep an eye out for a bunch of really fat red squirrels around the MSU football buildings. TG that Mrs. Warton thought that black squirrels were cute and imported them to MSU so we can easily identify the UofM ones.

Well, good enough for me. I am going to email Tucker to let him know to keep the squirrels away. I will definitely sign the email with Floyd's name though.
