What the fukc? Fulton fires football/baseball coach after 23 years for fucking profanity?

What kind of bullshit is that?

What's going on at that school? Guy gets a positive evaluation after the board said they'd wait till his evaluation came in after baseball season, as to whether they retain him as football/baseball coach, and he goes to the regional finals with a great evaluation then the superintendent fires him anyway? Something is weird at this school. Any inside?

It sounded like the coach was glad to be done with the assholes on the board. If they hadn't nailed him for the swearing, it would have been for allowing kids to chew gum and go to the bathroom without a hall pass. They live in a different world up there.

And even though there have never been any Black visitors to Fulton and possibly BECAUSE there have never been any Black people in Fulton, there has been no inclination to do things differently. When asked about the situation, Sheriff Buford T Thelen said they leave things like that "just in case...."

So they put him under evaluation, he passed with flying colors, so they fired him. Excellent!

Sounds like the coaches who left might have also given them some nuggets, has to be a lot more going on, because in towns like that, when you have a highly successful coach, the coach stays as long as he wants, and eventually ends up as the school's AD and gets a gym or field named after him.

No, there isn't anything personal between the board, the superintendent and Winkler. Nothing at all. Man, this is a perfect case of small town politics getting the best of adults.

"in terms of what the board had against Winkler, well there were numerous accusations that his team used profanity on the football field in 2013 and 2014. His team was also called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for wildly waving its arms after a play. There was also an incident at Bath High School last year where the bus driver, who was in attendance Monday and spoke at length about the incident, said she saw Winkler berate a player and swear at him. Then after the game she said Winkler told her to leave the player there as he had not gotten on the bus yet. Sometime later the player himself spoke to the incident and said he told the coaches he was going home with his parents.

It went on like this for 100 minutes, accusations that he didn’t sign his paperwork properly at the end of the season suddenly became a major deal. Winkler didn’t sign the paperwork because he didn’t agree with it and felt as if he was being ostracized by the administration.

In the past year two coaches have left the football program and their resignation letters were read aloud in an attempt to tie Winkler in. Then there was a lot of debate about why varsity assistant coach David Sheahan left and it felt like they wanted to pin it on Winkler till four or five people stepped up and explained the real reason away.

Then there was word that Winkler left the weight room for 20 minutes recently while his kids were lifting, again a major ordeal right? You bet it is despite the fact he was on the other side of the door dealing with a t-shirt vendor whom he couldn’t hear in the weight room.

It went on like this throughout. The kids swore, the kids got a penalty called against them for flailing his arms, the kids danced suggestively, Winkler bullies his players.

Where this all leads is to one point, it being Winkler has been under the administrative microscope for some time now, two years to be exact, and his every action has been analyzed and studied to the point of exhaustion. Winkler said it’s like putting out fire after fire, but he was willing to do it because he wasn’t going to let the administration force him out without at least a fight. Moreover Winkler, who’s also the President of the teacher’s union, felt that he was being forced out by an unsupportive administration that is twice the bully that he is.

If he’s right who’s next?

Then there’s the support system which seems to be completely lacking. As it stands Winkler and Athletic Director Chad Podolak don’t see eye to eye and likely never will which likely didn’t do Winkler any favors. Considering the amount of pressure Winkler has been under for two years running now the nail that needs hammering is does the administration hold every one if its coaches to the same standard that Winkler was held to?

The answer is a definitive ‘no’ because for some reason or another they wanted Winkler out and they got their wish Monday night.

From the outside looking in the one word that keeps popping up is mess. The situation is a messy train wreck that has two sides pitted against one another for different reasons.

On one side John Winkler and his family are fighting the good fight for the right reasons. On the other side are his detractors who are just looking for a reason.

Where is Fulton and how old is this guy? My town's football program sucks ass.

I have a friend who's dad was a football coach at a larger high school he actually attended. He was also teacher at the school. Played Big Ten in college. At least broke even on the field. Had some winning seasons.

Then a board member didn't like a story he heard about a relative that was in the program. Never mind the story was incorrect and the actual actions the coach took were for the best interest of the kid... but "he gone", justified with stupid shit like this... this type of shit happens all the time and has forever.
