I have a wall and a table tope and a light, picture above the table. (au naturale)
If you can't use the company logo or whatever it may be hokey.

One guy I work with has some weird background. It keeps cutting off part of his head for some reason. That's the main reason I don't bother with it.

Yeah, it stops being a crowd pleaser when that happens. I guess you have to have the right lighting. In real life I think they are dumb but at the start of a zoom call when it’s awkward and everyone is doing the small talk I think a good zoom background can help ease the tension.

Another person I work with has a sideways Christmas tree. That one is pretty good.

I don't understand this video conferencing trend. I've worked from home for over a decade. Never used the fucking camera until rona hit. Conducted all of my business via web sharing apps like GTM, Teams, Skype for Business, etc. Never once needed to see the person I'm talking to. Now I have new clients who are all remote suddenly because of the rona and they jump on a kickoff call and they all have their cameras on. Fuck that. I still have a piece of black electrical tape over my camera. Video conferencing is not important or essential to doing business.

Same here. One of our execs requires it now so on internal meetings I have to do it. The other day I saw I had a 10 AM meeting where I'd have to appear on zoom so I showered and shaved. Usually I get right out of bed and work in sweatpants for most of the morning. I definitely don't maintain my appearance which is part of the joy of working from home.

Also, one guys Zoom persona is to be the "jazz" guy. He has framed posters of Jazz venues and a coffee poster by him.

I'll put my resume as a Fab 5 hater up against anyone any day of the week. I took a hit on my high school popularity because I openly rooted against them. For anyone that doesn't remember or was too young back then there was Fab 5 mania everyone loved them.

I also openly hated Desmond Howard and my popularity took a hit the Monday I showed up to school with a smile on my face after the big win in the Big House.

I was the same way. Now we don’t have to do it for meetings, but most my appts for a while will be via zoom. So I have to. I am not thrilled with this change of things, but change is constant. Accept it and adapt. My 2 cents.

And I don’t have a blank/clear enough wall space (no office in this house) so any zoom backgrounds don’t work well. My basement is this half wall/half wood paneling which messes with it. Couches are too high up and interfere. Picture on the walls, etc. I don’t care enough to put some blank sheet or whatever to make it work. I will probably make some area clear in our new house in my office to change stuff up for the hell of it.

My wife uses pics from our travels as her background. If you have some from Australia, you’re good to go.
I use a green screen and wear a green shirt so all I appear as is a head and hands.

Re: What's Your Favorite Zoom Background?
I think part of it is in office culture gadgets are a great way for small talk. I remember back in the day when the latest Palm or Black Berry would come out people would show theirs off or talk about it how they couldn't wait to get theirs. I remember when those little two wheel balancing scooters came out some guy brought his to the office and was riding off to the break room on his. People in the office went nuts.
