How much to tip movers?
There are 4 movers, 2 big trucks. They also have a stop at a storage unit.
I'm not sure how long it will take.
How much should I tip each guy? I'm torn between $50 and $100 a piece.

I was going to say $20 each. If their employer pays so shitty that you need to subsidize their wages that much, then you should've gone with another company.

That sounds about right. I felt like I erred on the high side. I feel like I gave each mover a hundred when we did it and there was two of them. I tip like five dollars at our bagel breakfast place for the cashier as well. I got the money at this point, remember the crappy jobs I worked and just remember how much that money meant to me back then. I try to pass it on.

Idk what they will be paid. It's $260/hr. Then they add an extra hour fee for truck use/fuel.
I thought $50 at a minimum because it's such hard work and I don't envy them.

Thanks, Moose.
I start at $40 per person, and if they’re pros, friendly, respectful of property, and moving especially heavy items, I’ll add to it from there. It’s usually been $60 - $80 per.
If it’s just a furniture delivery, it depends on the size of the piece. Wife had a small table delivered last week. There were two guys here even though one guy brought it to the house. The second guy just tagged along. She had planned to give them $10 each, but popped for another $20 because they’d driven in from the detroit area. She’s a sucker like that and I’m a cheapskate, but even I don’t skimp on showing my appreciation for something my back won’t let me do, plus, I hate moving, so it’s easier to part with money for people who are filling a need.

This is a whole 3 bedroom house with finished basement. Lots of stuff. I think they will be around 6 hours, but I'm not quite sure.

I think it’s bullshit that down state Swillers didn’t band together and help you move Dendro. Greenway I can understand. He’s old as fuck and would have stroked out lifting an empty styrofoam cup.

I’d start at $75 each, and probably higher, but that’s me. If they’re also doing some of the packing, I’d gladly give them $100 each, but I don’t have two young kids to pay for.

just do the math.. 6 hours at the rate... 20% of that? $150 each or so if it actually takes 6 hours?

That seems ridiculously generous. I generally go way overboard tipping in restaurants, but outside of that industry (and the person responsible for my hair) I'm not really on board with the 20% thing.

They would spend one hour arguing about the best way to load the truck, and then three hours arguing about raw milk and sitcoms.

The first time I used them was for hauling junk. At the time, that’s all I thought they did. Learned when they were here that they do all the moving, not just junk. They were very professional and friendly, and I’ve heard that from several others who’ve used them for moving that they were great. And, as fate would have it, it turns out the owners of our local franchise live in this neighborhood. They, too, are also quite nice, which tells me they haven’t had to deal with Bob too often.

Re: How much to tip movers?
According to google, standard for movers is $4-$5 for each hour of work or $20 for a half day, $40 for a full day.
I think $50 is certainly adequate, $100 is a lot.

Wow. So you're considering giving someone $100 for 6 hours work? You're probably close to doubling their pay. Their employer thanks you for enabling them to continue to pay dog shit wages & laugh all the way to the bank. Out of that $260/hr you're paying, I'd bet <$50 of it goes to those guys wages & "benefits". The rest is overhead & profit.
I still say $20 each. And why would anyone apply a restaurant level tip scale (20%). These guys aren't making less than minimum wage.

we haven't moved in over 25 years.. when we moved then, we did it ourselves.
I'm never moving again, so I'm probably not your best source for information regarding this or anything else.
(except questions about running, cycling, good music and bad beer).

Last move, I moved the smaller stuff ahead of time. Got the movers for the furniture and appliances. Job took two guys only about 3 hours start to finish. Tipped $20 each. Forget what the moving company charged but remember it seeming reasonable.
