Michigan State offers 2023 C Austin Parks of Saint Mary's, Ohio
Parks — who is listed at 6-foot-9 and 240 pounds — visited Michigan State on Monday, where it appears the Spartans handed him a scholarship offer. Parks is currently unranked on 247Sports in the 2023 class.

Ya as d wags said some reputable sources. I hope it’s Sissoko and not marble or hall
Also is there really a difference now and before it was called “the portal” outside of the not sitting a year?

In my most sarcastic writing: that’s all the difference you need. It also leads to tampering. Example, a PSU football player declares for the portal. Two days later he’s enrolled at LSU. Tell me phone calls and bag men aren’t involved when stuff line that happens. Its great for the kids I guess. Coaches are going to have to actively re-recruit their top players and get them NIL deals. Good for the players. Game changers.

I'm sure Izzo will plug the holes with transfers. But the portal, combined with NIL and the regular dirty recruiting bullshit is gonna drive him out IMO. sooner than later.

I feel a little like that too Duffy. I love all things MSU and sports are a great way to keep some kind of connection to the place especially when I am no longer proximal. But I gotta say, if every year it's going to be unrestricted free-agency for every player across the country my eyes are going to glaze over and I'm going to lose a substantial amount of interest.
It's fine to have to explain to my daughter every once in a while who Walker (pick your sport) is (because she doesn't recognize that guy) but when "you can't tell the players without a program" starts to apply to me then I'm going to be more likely to go on a hike than sit in front of the TV.
I get your point DWags, that it's good for the players and I can't say it's wrong that those who produce the entertainment shouldn't benefit from the spoils. So I'm not arguing against it so much as impatiently waiting for the quarterly Honors College and College of Natural Sciences newsletters.

All good points. I started to lose interest in major league baseball when free agency kicked in. As a kid a could name pretty much every player in the AL east and every Tiger for a decade. Now I couldn't name 5 current Detroit Tigers.
I can never see myself not watching MSU football and basketball but man it's getting weird.

Re: tOfficial 2023 MSU Basketball Recruiting Thread
As much as I am with Duffy and Rick here, I’m also going to be realistic. I was going nuts for Walker last year in football, and I would be doing the same thing if we get an outstanding portal player in basketball. I didn’t like college sports, because of the exploitation of the student athlete before this so I can’t say I’m not for them making money. They do deserve it. Scholarships are not money, they are scholarships. You can’t buy clothes with them you can’t buy food with them you can’t go on vacation with them you can’t buy a car with them. They have never been money, they have been scholarships. If any of us went to our job and we’re paid with free food in the cafeteria, and free cable or Internet, but not paid in money, none of us would take the job.
So, this is the world of college athletics right now. And while it seems we might be hurt in basketball, it sure helped us in football. And because I don’t want to lie to anyone, when the athletes were being exploited before I still put on my state gear and cheered like crazy for them. Now that the athletes have more power and have dictated the college scenes to the point where it’s just not the same to us, doesn’t mean I won’t be cheering like crazy for msu all next year and there after.
I’m just a slut for MSU athletics, I always will be, please don’t hate me

What I like about it beyond what has already been said is that it further reduces the ability of the "name" schools to win by locking up all the better players as third string on thier teams.
Good players get to play now, like Walker did last year, and schools like Alabama cannot win by just having 5 star players sitting on the bench so they aren't playing against them.

This will only last as long as the SEC and OSU (football) and the ACC and Kansas (basketball) see the benefit. We all know the NCAA does not call the shots.
