The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.2 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis, the same increase as in August and July, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 2.4 percent before seasonal adjustment.
The index for shelter rose 0.2 percent in September, and the index for food increased 0.4 percent. Together, these two indexes contributed over 75 percent of the monthly all items increase. The food at home index increased 0.4 percent in September and the food away from home index rose 0.3 percent over the month. The energy index fell 1.9 percent over the month, after declining 0.8 percent the preceding month.
The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.3 percent in September, as it did the preceding month. Indexes which increased in September include shelter, motor vehicle insurance, medical care, apparel, and airline fares. The indexes for recreation and communication were among those that decreased over the month.
The all items index rose 2.4 percent for the 12 months ending September, the smallest 12-month increase since February 2021. The all items less food and energy index rose 3.3 percent over the last 12 months. The energy index decreased 6.8 percent for the 12 months ending September. The food index increased 2.3 percent over the last year.

The ACA reduced price increases in the medical field & Health Care plans back in 2014 -2016 but that effect is long gone.
With "Wall Street" financing all the medical corporations and consolidating them prices (and their profits) have skyrocketed.
As far as that goes we are in the era of Wall Street owning and directing most of the sectors of the economy. The era where we had companies competing with each other to the benefit of the customers is gone.
When I had company insurance there was also the issue of the corporation deciding that the workers should pay for more of it out of their own pockets, something what was encouraged with the GW Bush tax cuts.

Otherly stated: the liars who are shitting on it every chance they get because god forbid they give any credit to the plan that worked... and instead of working inside the obviously functioning economic model they need to take control and slant the model toward the handful of billionaires funding the R party.

disappointing, but certainly not surprising, to see republicans/libertarians not celebrating good news for America and American workers.

MAGA voters touting voting for Trump tariffs and tax cuts for the top 5% is akin to football recruits choosing scUM because of academics.

I wonder why the reputation is so bad?
Maybe, just maybe, 40 some percent of the population running around doing fine but saying it's so bad, and their ring leader trashing it every time someone will listen?

Re: Inflation continues on record pace.
Have any of you folks flown domestic or international flights in the last 18 months while we’ve heard the MAGA crowd’s din about inflation? Over the last 18 months I have flown to both coasts several times, to Ireland and most recently to Calgary to visit Banff. All originated from GRR or DTW and in every case they were sold out.
When did so many poor people whose lives are being ravaged by inflation start using air travel again creating long lines at check in, stuffing carryons into every overhead bin, more long lines at baggage carousels?

Right and every metric shows record spending... but we are supposed to be in some sort of post economic dystopia... I think this is one of the Russians biggest hits online because you start whining about $ and every person who thinks "it should be easier" jumps on that bandwagon.

Or maybe, just maybe, the Biden Administration has done a piss poor job of promoting itself. Inflation isn’t bothering me at all. My investments are booming and have far outpaced inflation. The economy is doing quite well. But you never hear that from Biden or Harris. In fact some of her ads start off with “inflation is hurting everyone”. JFC, stop shooting yourself in the foot. Trump claimed his economy was the best in the history of the world, even though it wasn’t. But people believed it.

I don't understand \why they didn't use all that money for doing and saying just that. All those Hollywood clever people could make great clever adds. It's almost like they want to lose.

They tried that for months & months and no one, even posters on this board, would accept that message.
If anyone would post all the positives in the economy hordes would start posting about the price of meat, McDonald's & gasoline.

Eh, maybe. Personally, I think 50 percent of the folks live below the median and bitch no matter what the economy is like.

Retailers are already preparing for Trump’s tariffs that threaten to upend the economy
I know this was mentioned elsewhere, but it should be noted here, too. Hold onto your butts.
Donald Trump has proposed tariffs on all imports — and shoppers could soon face steep prices, a retail trade association warned.
On the campaign trail, Trump — now the president-elect — proposed adding a tariff of 10 to 20 percent on all imports — and a 60 to 100 percent tariff on imports from China specifically.
These tariffs would put a significant burden on shoppers, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF) CEO Matthew Shay.
“The adoption of across-the-board tariffs on consumer goods and other non-strategic imports amounts to a tax on American families,” Shay told Fox Business. “It will drive inflation and price increases and will result in job losses.”
American consumers could lose between $46 billion and $78 billion in spending power each year if the president-elect’s proposals are implemented, a study this week from the NRF shows.
“A growing body of economic research concludes tariffs would have a net negative impact on the United States, with results ranging up to $7,600 in additional costs annually per household,” the study reads.
In a statement, NRF Vice President of Supply Chain and Customs Policy Jonathan Gold explained: “A tariff is a tax paid by the U.S. importer, not a foreign country or the exporter. This tax ultimately comes out of consumers’ pockets through higher prices.”

We saw how they used the pandemic to increase profits via unjustified price increases. It looks like they might get a second bite of that apple.

Are groceries more expensive than last year?
Balmer is a weirdo but this series of things he's done with USA facts has been kind of interesting.
Of course it's all about eggs.
And gas.
Balmer is a weirdo but this series of things he's done with USA facts has been kind of interesting.
Grocery store food prices increased 1.3% from September 2023 to September 2024.[1] That was less than the increase of 2.4% for commodities such as gasoline, utilities, consumer goods, apparel, medical services. It was also lower than the 2% FED inflation target, which is a long-term inflation target that aims to foster stable economic development.
Of course it's all about eggs.
And gas.
