Re: tOFFICIAL CFP Rankings Thread
if we win out, it doesn't matter. However, it might matter if we lose only to Ohio State, for instance, and the debate is about who gets to go to Pasadena.
Purely theoretical at this point (as is everything), but would the committee send a two loss MSU team with losses to Purdue and Ohio State or a two loss scUM team with losses to MSU and Ohio State?
that's where I'm afraid this could matter.

They’d send Michigan. I don’t think that’s up for debate tbh

I think it was Herbie who kind of alluded to that. He said something when they put the 7 team graphic up there...like there had to be controversy or something.

Not sure both teams will beat Penn State.

This is just espn creating their own content.
Probably the one of the biggest arguments against expanding is for sports talk... they wouldn't have the drama if 12 or 16 got in. (of course they would generate something else) With, of course, the bowl committees and athletic directors not getting free golf junkets all over the country.

Just a friendly reminder that college football is governed by corrupt assholes. I don't care about placement, and it will sort itself out, but if you're going to talk about comparing UM and MSU, it was already answered on the field. It's all about the

Well the refs gifted Michigan in that game.
The PSU/MSU game will have refs trying to gift Michigan an MSU loss.

Happened to flip it on right when this dude was speaking. It was actually worse live. They did interview Tuck right after, so that was cool.

Either the teams' on the field wins and losses count, or it is a "popularity" contest.
If the latter just do an on line poll to decide who is in.

Maybe one of the metrics is the number of times a program has gathered players and coaches to hold hands and sing Josh Groban songs. UM dominates MSU in that category.

A big part of the formula is tv ratings and revenue.

I think part of it was they were possibly setting a precedent for later...to have another team (ND/OSU) jump a team they lost to (Cincy/Oregon), or to let a team in (on a statistical basis of sorts) that might have 2 losses (Alabama).
It was dumb why they did it no matter what the reasoning was.
Beat OSU.

Hmmm
MSU v Purdue had higher TV ratings than Michigan v Indiana.
Try again.

It can't be about ratings or Syracuse would be in the top 4. Everybody knows CNY is a ratings goldmine.

Well, it isn't about on the field performance or ratings ...

It used to be both, Steve. Did you start watching sports in 2000? If you’ve ever attended a basketball game at the Carrier Dome, you would see they value the football experience over basketball. It’s a terrible place to see a basketball game but fine for football.

They’ve finished in the top 20 two times in the twenty first century. Their peak ranking was 14 and the other was 15. Ouch.

Exactly, but from the mid-80s through the very early 2000s, they didn't have a losing season. In that time span, they had multiple 10 win seasons and even an undefeated season in there somewhere. Here is a wonderful Carrier Dome sightline for a basketball game. They really need a separate basketball arena, but it won't happen because they can pack people into the endzone of the Carrier Dome and seat people in temporary bleachers that might as well be in fucking Baldwinsville.
