I like Blaha calling football.
Disliked Beckman for years starting with the way he ran off Bob Reynolds when MSU was on WJR and was WJR Sports Director until Beckman replaced him. Got the skinny from Bob himself and later from Bob’s son Warren who was a fixture on TV8 in GR for 35 years.
I do think it’s sad Beckman spent so much time and so many weekends away from his family broadcasting then dies less than a year after retirement.

Good thing they have that 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance to transport Reitman to the morgue.

Not only that... there was a Hawkeye that didn't whistle and a 4077 without a dentist. Also, they cut the Springsteen vocals out of the song. They cut the vocals when they shouldn't have!

I'm trying to recall. I watched the show, wasn't a regualr viewer, but I liked it. Was the right amount of underhanded political "fuck you" tuype stuff with pretty funny people. But I thik we're near the same generational t.v. watchers. I was a junior in college at MSU I think, maybe a sophomore or senior. I remember the campus coming to a stop for the last M.A.S.H. show ever. I mean nobody was walking around. But not to be outdone, I think the same damn thing happened with a general hospital episode when Luke and Laura got married. I watched the last half of the M.A.S.H episode. I missed the General Hospital episode.
Because I'm old and memory slips, this next part is probably bull shit, but I think the last MASH episode was like Super Bowl type ratings on t.v. with over 70% of America watching.

People tend to forget how bad war is. Shows like MASH/Apocalypse Now/Platoon/etc. should be required viewing for young people.

It was before my time, but back in the 50s/60s, Erik O was a huge radio personality in Lansing. (I don’t know the exact timeline.) He and WILS would hold city-wide dances at places like the old Civic Center and that joint was hopping. It’s hard to realize it now because 1) It’s terrestrial radio, and 2) Lansing is a small market. But it makes sense in context. This was pre-FM radio when there were only a few stations locally, and rock music was still in its infancy—still a novelty. Locals loved Erik O. His name is mentioned fairly often on the Historical Society of Greater Lansing Facebook page.
RIP to a local legend and condolences to his daughter Kristen and the rest his family.
