Unless the rules have changed, you have to be considered high risk to get Paxlovid. But it’s worth attempting.

Daughter goes to school gets COVID but is asymptomatic. I am feeling a bit off, test positive (that is when we tested the daughter). Wife tests positive. Her quad-vaxxed parents also test positive.

We are all over 50, so we follow the governments advice. I go to a test to treat clinic literally no one in the place, you check in on your phone. Wait an hour, never hear or see anyone, feeling fine, I leave.

Wife goes to a different clinic, they do not give her Paxlovid (89% effective) but Lagevrio (30% effective) due to some other meds she is on.

Her father goes to his doctor who refuses to prescribe Paxlovid. Her mother goes to her doctor and is prescribed Lagevrio as well.

So, 4 people within the last week - all go to see a doctor and who should have been prescribed Paxlovid according to the CDC, none of us were.

Just a quibble though, why didn't you go to a different clinic if the first one was effectively closed, and that your wife due to meds was given something else is why they require a doctor or clinic to prescribe it. Also, reason for doctor refusal Paxlovid for her dad?

All of this to say, if some gets covid they should still try to get one of the mitigating drugs, a reduction of risk of death by a factor of 4 is huge, though that factor is mostly for the unvaccinated.

I probably should have gone to another clinic - but I was not sure Paxlovid would do much in my situation. Yes, I am over 50, but I am in good health and in very good shape for my age. As stated earlier I am triple-vaxxed - I know my overall risk of death or even hospitalization was low (FWIW currently around 80% of COVID deaths are in the 65+ age range). I went to the clinic hoping to have a reasonable discussion about whether or not I should take an anti viral. As I said earlier, I was feeling fine.

As for my father in law - I am not sure. You would think he would be the textbook person who should be prescribed Paxlovid. He is 79, has some respiratory issues, and recently had pneumonia. We were most concerned about him. My brother in law (wife's sister's husband) is a trauma surgeon and asked an epidemiologist friend to look over his case after his doctor refused to prescribe it. In the end he felt my father in law's risk was fairly low due to the strain. Father in law is doing fine.

Not being fat and unhealthy will save you from Covid.

It's amazing that the CDC just up and fundamentally redefines a long standing medical term to conveniently fit their emerging narrative shift and everyone just continues on as if that's normal operating procedure.

No hyperbole, that is absolutely amazing to me.
