Gone way too early at 31.

I will always remember Payne for his humanity. Becoming friends with a young cancer patient and her family he met at a visit to Sparrow. He continued to visit her in the hospital and took her up the ladder to cut down nets. He got emotionally involved with her and her family when it would have been easy to do a meet and greet and go one with his life.

Damn. I loved watching that kid become a complete player. As Payne was getting ready for the draft, Izzo said that Payne's greatest strength was his character. He said that Payne's relationship with Lacey wasn't made for TV; it was happening long before TV ran with it.

This is my favorite Payne moment. The clip shows a dunk and then a huge Izzo embrace, but I believe the embrace was because Payne dove for a loose ball and was playing his heart out.

More about the play that Izzo was so fired up about. I didn't notice that Payne missed the dunk in that video. That's what led to the great moment. After missing the dunk and falling flat on his back, Payne somehow came up with the loose ball and called a timeout - a tough and smart play. It's at 2:15 of this video...

Just tragic. This is why I don't want to ever get in the middle of a domestic issue. I don't think parties act rationally in those situations.

That is not my understanding of how stand your ground works....at all.
That's deciding you want to shoot someone, then following through with the plan.

I didn't read that part. That defense won't work, but who knows, I think a sheriff of duty or retired killed some kids in a theater because they were in their phone during a movie. I think he was found not guilty, happened in Tampa.
