True. And if Trump had managed to overturn the election, I think a civil war would've been the expected outcome. We've seen that he doesn't care how many people have to suffer for him to cling to power. As long as he's a force in American politics, our democracy will be tested.

Unlike 2000 and the Brooks Brothers Riots, which at least one current Justice was part of, the Republicans were unable to put the actual counting of the ballots in question, therefore the court had nothing to allow them to throw the election, unlike in 2000.  Sadly, for the United States, the 2000 election was an insurrection, too, (post-election studies show that Gore won in Florida and a statewide recount would have shown that) and it allowed the Courts to be packed by the Republicans.
