I remember thinking Mitchell was going to be the answer. Of course, I said the same thing about Joe Reed, Eric Hipple, Rodney Peete, and Andre Ware. So young, so naive.

Wow, probably a symptom of severe depression that was triggered by playing for the Detroit Lions.

Mitchell didn't catch depression, he caused it.steveschneider wrote:Wow, probably a symptom of severe depression that was triggered by playing for the Detroit Lions.
One great play, 4th and half a yard near midfield. He tries a QB sneak, fumbles, Packers return ball for a touchdown.

They need someone from the 2008 team (0-16).

Even at 6'6" you've got to do some serious eating and damn little else to push the scales past 350.

I left Erik Kramer off the list intentionally. Hell, he's the only Lions QB with a playoff victory in almost 60 years.
You're right about the rest, for sure.

Green Bay has had two QB's through all you've mentioned. I thin New England has also. Think about that. WowNommad2 wrote:

My favorite Lion QB of all time was from Harvard and he wore number 0.

Now combine the multiple QB's with multiple Head Coaches.
And this is why they are the Detroit Lions.

That's the one! If you think about it, the dude had the respect of Papa Hemingway. Probably the greatest accomplishment of any QB affiliated with the Lions.

I found a blog that gave their ranking and the rationale. It really is sad:
1. Bobby Layne (clear #1, with 2 titles under his leadership)
2. Greg Landry (led the Lions to 2 winning seasons)
3. Erik Kramer (has the only playoff win since Bobby Layne)
4. Matt Stafford (has the 3 most prolific passing seasons for Lions QBs)
5. Scott Mitchell (set a franchise record with a 12 win season)
The Curse of Bobby Layne

Paper Lion was a good movie. Filmed at Cranbrook where the Lions used to hold training camp. As kids, my brothers and I would ride our bikes to Cranbrook to watch practice nearly everyday in July and August.
After practice the players would let us carry their helmets up the hill to the lockerroom.
My favorite player was RB Altie Taylor. I carried his helmet for two years and he would invite me into the locker room for Gatorade.
Pretty cool stuff for a 10 year old.
