He’s at 161 now. Michigan will win and we’re over 52.5. They’ll get the ball back. I need 9 more passing yards.

Depends. If Bama gets in UM loses in the semis. If TCU does they lose to Georgia in the Natty.

I wouldn't mind UM having to play OSU again.
Should 1 seed Georgia have to play OSU instead of TCU? That doesn't seem fair.

If this is the thought process then TCU shouldn’t be in it at all

I’m not convinced Bama doesn’t get in. Suits at network would love those 4, and at the end of the day, they have some weight with the committee.

Re: 2022 season CFP thread
It should be;
Georgia
Washtenaw county
Clemson
Kansas state
(World in which you have to win your regional championship before being able to play on the national stage. Why should TCU be considered above Kansas state? They won the regional championship based on the region’s terms that were decided before the season)
What it should be if we ignore that each region has already picked their representative
Georgia
Washtenaw county
Alabama
Osu

If your bottom four are selected the semi finals will produce the greatest ratings of all time.

I guess it would probably be Utah over Kansas state. I’m not particularly familiar with either team tbh. But there is still a fun little debate to have if only 5 teams plus one mid major are eligible

Agreed. Will the committee ignore that?
And I think it might even be higher ratings if you had Georgia play Bama, and OSU play UM. Then you guarantee a Big 10 vs. SEC Championship.

I understand. But, if we’re going to try to play this game where we try to pretend we know who are the best 4 teams through eye tests and shit like that (while ignoring the process we went through all season to crown regional champions) then what does how many losses each team has really matter?
Would anyone actually take TCU over alabama? Like, gun to your head, life depends on who wins, is anyone actually picking TCU? They aren’t.

Re: 2022 season CFP thread
You can ignore me though. Honestly. At the end of the day I believe in my core that winning your conference championship should be required and if that results in Purdue making the playoffs at 9-4 because they beat Michigan then I think that makes a lot more sense than osu making it because we think they’re good because they beat… I guess oregon and Penn state (a team who beat, well, no one of note)

# of losses (or lack of) matters for Georgia and Michigan and Alabama and Tennessee and everyone.
A 2 loss OSU would most likely get edged out by Alabama.

But why? If we’re saying that we want the 4 best teams then why do we care that alabama lost twice at the last second? How do you simultaneously say that you want the four best teams then put in guard rails?

It certainly doesn’t matter when TCU and osu fail to win their conference championships. Why should it matter in regular season games then?

Re: 2022 season CFP thread
My thoughts are the best part of the CFP is often the arguing about who should make it.
Since at this point and time the selection process is subjective for the most part I’m all for two SEC teams. Superior conference with the most exciting regular season games. My vote is two sec teams vs two big ten teams.

Based on past selections it isn't the "best" teams on the field, it is the "best" teams for TeeVee ratings.

There is definitely a revenue and ratings bias.

It surprises me that teams from the same conference who have already played each other would push up national ratings.
Or perhaps the coasts really don't care about college football all that much?

Well...UM will be the #2 seed and probably play TCU. OSU will probably be the #4 seed and have to play #1 Georgia.
So, it kind of seems like it matters.

You’re misunderstanding me. I know that it does matter. I’m asking why. If we’re doing the whole “4 best teams” then it shouldn’t.
Otherwise, it should be restricted to just conference champions, in which case we should have clemson and Utah in.

I think I agree. Probably should just expand the playoffs to every conference champ in Div one playoff seed it out based on rankings and may the best team win. The selection process is BS and this would be a BS free way to determine who makes it.

OSU will get some fire power back. Not a sure thing that Georgia gets there. UofM was blessed by the committee. Warde Manuel is on it I believe.

Wow. Tough break for Michigan. I'm sure they were praying they'd have the chance to play lesser teams like OSU, Bama, or Tennessee instead of TCU. Great job committee!

It's the 4 best teams as determined by a committee.
