Tiger Woods is tied for 114th after Day 1 of the PGA Championship

I have a feeling that Tiger is going to "get injured" again early in his round tomorrow unless he comes out shooting birdies and eagles on every hole.

Assuming he doesn't come back to win this major, he'll have gone 6 full years without winning one (2008 US Open was his last major win). His longest previous career major drought was between the 2002 US Open and the 2005 Masters.

It makes you wonder how long he'll grind it out if he doesn't win another major soon.

I get sooooo tired of the coverage Eldrick gets. Jesus, he ain't going to win so start covering the guys that actually have a chance. I don't care if he ever wins again or not. If he does, good for him. If not, don't care.

It is annoying, I can't imagine how the other players feel. I saw on the front page of ESPN.com that Tiger was 9 off the pace, so when I clicked on the "Golf" page, I didn't expect to see all this:

- Wojciechowski: Tiger a work in progress
- Woods 3 over in Round 1--->TIGER TRACKER
- O'Connor: Tiger/Phil closer, but not close
- Harig: Temper Tiger expectations
- Tiger on his 3 over 74: "It is what it is"

That's 1 front page article, and 7 more in the Golf section.

I just got home and turned on the golf channel. They are showing Tiger's every shot.

I haven't seen a single shot for the leaders.

Dufner and some other nobody withdrew from the tourney. Which golfer do you guys want to give blow jobs to?

Rick Reilly's line from earlier this week....Funny how every time Tiger is about to shoot a huge number, his back goes out. He's like vodka. He's 80 proof.

I don't follow golf, but I do love how pissed off you guys get about Tiger Woods.

Juts an FYI, yesterday's feature group on the PGA App was Tiger, Mickelson and Harrington (?), today is Bubba, Rory and Kaymer.

This course looks awesome though.

Tiger's 3 putt leads to a double bogey on #6 to go +5. The projected cut line is +1.

He looks despondent, like he just got a prostate exam.

He's +6. That one hurt, lets see if he finishes the round.

+7 thru 8. The grimacing and limping is getting more pronounced. He might bail at the turn.

The top 70 and those tied for 70th will make the cut. Tiger is tied for 128th.

Frist 15 minutes of Live From the PGA on the golf channel was Tiger. A guy that missed the cut by 15 strokes.

If the tour really relies  this much on Tiger it sucks.

Edit: Missed the cut by 6 strokes, and lost to the 64 year old Ryder Cup Captain by 3.

They're as bad as ESPN. Kept watching to see if they'd show some shots from Oosthuizen, who was silently climbing the leader board and having one of the better rounds of the day. Guy hits it a mile and has won a Major. Nobody even knows he's just a few off the lead. Not one single mention from anyone.

Nope, just more Woods' coverage and his press conference after his round.  

The media must know more than me, tho. It's obvious that Tiger must be the sole reason for ratings and there's not enough true golf fans to drive ratings by wanting to watch the leaders. Hell, I'd rather have watched Kenny Perry highlites than some goddamn interview with some guy who has a sore back.

I might be alone on this, but I wouldn't mind a short feature on some details on what changes have been made to the course since the last PGA tournament - include photos, how it affects play, etc. For me it's as much about the course as it is the guys playing it.

Mickelson with some bad karma on 18. He didn't want to let the last group play with him. Seemed like bad sportsmanship to me.

I can't really blame him too much. The commentators said that he was told it would be handled a different way. (I think they speculated and were wrong, based on Phil's comments later).

Phil knows that at his age, in his condition, it's tough to get this close. He seems fine now...he just said "it's not a big deal, I'm glad we all got to finish".

You have to remember, he's in the heat of the moment on the course. With a few minutes to dwell on it, he was cool with it. Class act all the way.

His partner have the go ahead without asking him. He was pissed off and didn't want them to hit. He has enough self awareness to know that he can't tell Ricky that and there is no way he's going into an interview to put him on blast. If it was his call Rory would have stood at 18 until it was pitch black.

OK, but if that was the case, why would Phil care if Rory shot in sub-par conditions? He wants Rory to mark his ball and start again tomorrow? That isn't exactly a sporting choice either. Let the guy who has to play in poor conditions do what he wants.

Golf is full of head games. Mickelson was running to get in the fairway, Ricky was the one who told them to hit. He even lagged behind a bit so they could finish the hole. No one is going to take this narrative because it fits well into the old white man country club narrative to have Phil be gracious.
