He'll be 40 before the '16 Masters. He's had knee surgery, back surgery and now sounds like another back surgery.

Since 1960 20 of 216 majors were won by players 40 or older and since 2000 Vijay Singh won a PGA Championship at 41. Other than that , no golfer over 40 has won a Major played in North America since 2000. Woods best chance would be the British Open or as they say it "The Open" where 3 or the 20 major winners won at The Open after they were 40.

Yeah...the number of players who've won a major after 40 years old is damn small. Getting back to being healthy and truly competitive would be a huge accomplishment for Tiger, much less competing for a major. Tiger needs four to tie Jack and five to claim the most majors. Seems darn near impossible to see that happening. And I'm trying to remember a high-profile great athlete who has fallen so dramatically, both in terms of performance and image. It's truly stunning.....

Woods announced on his website Thursday that another back surgery—this the fourth in recent years—was necessary to “alleviate ongoing pain in his back and leg.”

Its kind of sad but almost predictable.

Once his father died the wheels began to fall off. Not in one major incident (that happened when his then wife did some body work on his SUV with an iron) but one issue after another.

No way a still multi-millionaire can't have a chauffer on call with a retainer to make sure the person is discree.

I saw that he said it wasn't alcohol but some concoction of prescription drugs that fucked him up. I could see that for him.

That said, I don't quite get the hate for the guy. To me it seems clear that he's down a pretty similar path to the one Michael Jackson was on. Crazy parental pressure, lots of attention at a young age and pressure to perform at that age (obviously a bigger problem for Michael but still existing for woods,) a successful but pretty troubled and eventually fucked up adulthood that gets worse and worse year after year. It's super easy to say now "oh why doesn't he just get his head on straight" but secretly enjoy the meltdown, then wait til he dies and says "oh so sad. He just was so troubled."

I don't know. His shrink is probably way ahead of me on this idea.
