The funny thing is they are voting on this thing with a simple majority to make sure it takes a super majority 60% to update the constitution.
This whole thing is only a problem if you are an unamerican shit bag that can't win with good ideas.
Hopefully the people in ohio aren't fooled. This theoretically should have absolutely unanimous opposition, who in the right mind would reduce the chances the average citizen can have a real impact on the constitution, i.e. lowering your own power? But we all know how short sighted republicans ban be. Hopefully the coalition of grievance groups (anti abortion, pro religion, pro white supremacy, etc) don't add up to be enough. I would hate to let ohio fall permanently into the loving embrace of the anti-american laughably "pro-life" republicans. Ohio is pretty strongly red right now but they have some pretty big cities, all it should take to turn it purple is to reach those folks with some strong value propositions. Democrats would probably have an easier go at it than Stacey Abram's efforts in Georgia.

That would be one way to spin it. Democrats should pour money into painting this in conflict with republican/trumping philosophy, and one of those ways is to paint it as you say. This is in fact in conflict with historical republican philosophy (i.e. power to the people), but not in conflict with the reality of today's republican (strip all power from the people but paint it as a good thing that actually benefits the people using wedge issues like abortion). Just utterly absurd.

This is a voter turnout battle.

In the last 6-8 years the MI GOP is on it’s at to being an opposition party. Ohio GOP noticed and is making moves to keep laws in place for decades even if Ohio Democrats might win the governorship and get legislative majorities,

The Republicans tried to create limits, though not as much as these Ohio limits, but the Michigan Courts overruled most of them.

edit - only on Elon's twitter would this be considered "sensitive content" The TeeVee shows hotter sex scenes than this one every day, but they aren't ads depicting the results of the politics that Elon supports.

Yes, the Congressman snatches that condom like Pickles on a Blue Jay before he broke his wing.
Missed the symbolism of the red tie, good catch.

The GQP put it on the August ballot because they know only 20% - 30% of the voters will actually vote and they know if it's on the November ballot there's no way it's going to pass. They're hoping it gets passed by a minority of the majority.

However, there are already signs that considerably more people will show up than Republicans expected or hoped. Cleveland.com's Andrew J. Tobias reports that about 66,300 people cast ballots during the first week of early voting, which is more than ten times the amount who cast ballots at this point in the August 2022 primary.

This will probably have no problem passing.
If it doesn’t it may be an indicator of a shift.

As we’ve seen with the recent indictments in MI, the only election results 21st Century Republicans can accept are those where a Republican wins. If that doesn’t happen they attempt midterm recalls.

I'd really hate to see a state with a similar referendum process as michigan go down, as this would essentially make any referendum susceptible to resistance by an extremist minority of voters, thereby preventing any future Change not specifically endorsed by the ruling political party. Making this an extremely important battle in a long term war for this country. And Republicans, through their sleezy anti- american/anti democracy tactics and naturally insidious nature have the upper hand right now making this get voted on in fucking August. Beyond absurd

It's not turning blue any time soon but it very well could in the future. Ohio has a bunch of big cities and we all know that eventually when people come together in cities and share ideas, etc, they generally start turning blue on average.

"Oh no, it's not about abortions" says the AP when everyone knows that is what it is immediately about.
Of course, longer term it is about the jackbooted minority controlling the freedom loving majority, but they don't talk about that.

Starting next year, it also would double the number of counties where signatures must be gathered,
Didn't that same type of thing just get thrown out by the Michigan Supreme Court?

Probably under the principle of "one person one vote".
