When McCarthy eventually "won" the Speaker of the House position, there weren't a lot of people that expected him to be in that position for very long because the GOP is decaying, imploding, hateful, etc.

Well when they pass this budget bill, hopefully today, they are on the hook to pass the 12 Appropriations bills, so leaderless might not be a good idea.

Never put a bill to the House floor without knowing how your party members will vote.

Good trial attorneys never ask a question of a witness under oath if they don’t already know the answer.

it was really just a matter of time..  nobody is shocked by any of this, right?  

I mean, the christian leader of their party lost the popular vote twice, was impeached twice, lost the House, lost the Senate, was charged with 34 felonies and was recently found guilty of sexually abusing someone.

and he's the head of their party.. who they all have to check with before making any decisions.

Not really on board with this being a total defeat for Kevin.  One year of flat spending and a second of 1% increase is, when most of the country really doesn't want spending cut when they learn what gets cut, a pretty strong outcome.  He also looks like the sane grown-up by cutting this deal.

He also makes it harder for Trump in 2024, which is a smooth move, if, as he surely does, has concerns about Trump as the Republician candidate.

Let's be pragmatic here, this is a win for the vast majority of Americans and about as good as anyone can expect. Allowing the catastrophic consequences of a default would have been devastating to all Americans.
