Republicans are never going to abstain in enough numbers to allow Jefferies to be Speaker.

Jim Jordan doesn't want it (perhaps worried that such a high profile position would draw more acrutiny on his past). But dipshits keep voting for him, probably because they know that there will never be close to enough Rs on board, so it achieves their real goal of holding things up.

There was an article this morning, both-siding-it on this issue, talking about how close Nancy's election to Speaker was in 2018, though she easily had the votes. 15 Democratic Members did not vote for her, however, as she said, "I wouldn't have run if I didn't know I had the votes", which sums up the difference in politic skills between Palosi & the clown show we are seeing today.
