Michigan State spokesperson Matt Larson said that the school did not ask Ishbia or UWM to end the deals.

How is an NIL deal with a football player or a volleyball player a conflict of interest for an NBA team? I can see how it might be for a basketball player.

Just create and fund a nonprofit that sets up NILs. Politicians do this all the time. Some of these people have multiples of nonprofits, each focused on different areas of interest.

The Ross’ $1B gift to umaa with the athletic department $500M and $500M to the academic side was made by a collective group with Ross making the biggest donation.

The last $50M to bring the donation to the $1B was in 2017 before NIL existed.

Ross’s money went to umaa athletic department. Ishbia was directly involved with NIL recipients. That’s the rub. The NBA and NCAA treat basketball differently than other sports like the NFL.

Ishbia also bought a team whose previous owner was a piece of work. It’s a case of erroring on the side of caution.

If the NCAA basketball coaches and the FBS coaches work to put rules on transfers and immediate eligibility a some of the NIL madness will subside.
