My wife yelled at me today because I’m texting my youngest in our family chat during our day. She said “stop texting her, it’s 1 in the morning down there”.
I think it’s 10:45 Saturday morning there…. I think. I’m only guessing though.
I did ask if her and her fellow Spartans and herself plan on taking in a game. She said no plans. Just some wine tasting and hobit tours when they aren’t working.

I woke up last night at, like, 2:30 AM 'cause that's what I do. Caught a bit of the Philippines vs Norway (I think) match.
I suspect if the US Women advance, your kid might find a way to get there. That would be sweet. A badass American woman in a foreign country pulling for other badass American women.

She’s loving life down there. Unfortunately, a couple days ago in Auckland, in the land without guns, a “shooting” took place. Three dead six injured and the handful of MSU students working on their masters had to live that crap again. She’s fine.

Glad to hear she's okay and I hate that our kids have to live through the normalization of this madness.

Posted in the soccer thread before I say this one…
U SA 3-0 in women’s WC opener. A couple questionable calls on the first two goals, but now doubt on the third. And absolute hammer by Horan.

Big Group E matchup coming on Wednesday 9pm. USA vs. Netherlands. Gonna be a good match.
Spain (C), Brazil (F) and USA (E) looked the best in the opening games IMO.

USA
This one is actually pretty easy. I was more conflicted in the men's WC. Grew up watching Dutch men's side with my old man and USA women's with my girls. Will definitely root for the Dutch in the other matches though.

Not loving the USA laying 20yds off off-the-ball attackers on D. Dutch passing/progressing at will. Need to marking there man off the ball and force turnovers.
Fox and Demelo are turible.

Create turnovers, push it forward, they have the top front line in world (plus Horgan and Ertz). USA has 9 shots to 2.
Backline is a problem and they played to protect it. It backfired.

Way better 2nd half. Pressed on D through the midfield creating a ton of turnovers. They really should of had a 2nd goal.

Re: tOfficial Women's World Cup Thread
Weakness in this team is glaring. Prior teams had no holes. Especially on the backline. They ran shit through their backline. Injuries have ravaged the backline and midfield.
Fox would not be on prior WC teams. Period. Girma would be a sub. Dunn is elite. Ertz is elite, but she should be playing midfield.
Ertz moving back forces Demelo and Sullivan in at midfield. They are backups at best. Rose gave a spark coming in for Demelo, but not 100%. I’d plug Kristie Mewis in as the starter next match at midfield and put any body in for Fox.
I’m bring harse, but we are playing for keeps. Fox/Demelo/Sullivan/Girma are good NWSL players, but would not start on the previous two WC teams.

My kid follows them more than me. All game I would ask… where’s Sauerbrunn? Hurt. Dahlkemper? Hurt. Sonnet? Hurt. Heath? Hurt. Sam Mewis? Hurt.
Even Ertz and Rosie aren’t 100%. We are pretty patchwork in the back 7.

To be fair, the names above are older players and will be more injury prime. Team is in transition. Front line is set, gotta find a backline.
