My hope is Haller is letting people run with the Urban rumors to give him/the committee a smokescreen to evaluate and allow back channels to start discussions. If he extinguished those rumors, then people would demand more transparency and potentially corrupt the process he wants. If it ends up being Meyer, well than good I guess, but I don't see him have the level of success he is use to and the fans would demand.

The thought of MSU hiring a bigger scum bag than John Calipari has to be stressing you out.

IF Urban is coming, a lot of things would need to be worked out. I'd say it's better that no one seems to know anything.

I don't know about this Bob but certainty acknowledge it could end badly. I also think there's a chance he could be wildly successful. Then again, after Tucker anything might be better. The again, again......Urbz just might do something even more stupid. Sorry to go full Tim Staudt but stay tuned.

Yep. If I had any motivation I’d create a fake X account as a sports reporter and start passing along Booger vs. the NCAA updates. I’d bet a umaa fan is having some fun.
Don’t forget that Spiro dude is selling flags and Comp wants subscriptions. The more they get Spartan fans pumped, the more money they make.

Scared? No. If MSU announces him as the next HC, I'll be pleasantly surprised that they convinced him to walk away from his 7mill/year job where he talks about football for a few hours to return to the college coaching grind.
I honestly just don't see any reason why Urban would be interested in the MSU job - or ANY college coaching job - at this phase in his life. Maybe he is? I don't know. It really seems like he's got a pretty good gig right now, and returning to the college game would be more work than he might want to put in. Maybe he does - I have no idea. If MSU is able to get him, that would be a pretty impressive hire, and could bring us back to relevance very quickly. If MSU doesn't hire him, though, I don't necessarily think it is fair for some fans to fault the AD for not hiring a coach that might very well not be interested.

- football coaches aren't your normal person. they are kinda nuts. hence walking away from the fox job. it's in their blood. they are competitors. you guys keep repeating this thing about why would anyone want to rejoin the coaching ranks but you just don't think like these people.

I’m with you. But here’s the deal, for about seven years of my life, I was fortunate enough to coach football camps with some of these great coaches. They are different than us. At night if they had social gatherings for the visiting coaches, and you would play euchre, or if you wanted to gamble play some poker, they had this fire about them that would piss them off if they lost at either one of those. So here’s my point: I get that we’re looking at his life now and we’re thinking about all the hassle of recruiting and the transfer portal and just everything else that comes with it , but they have this bizarre need to compete constantly. I think it drives most big-time coaches crazy when they retire. This is just my speculation on why someone like him would drop that cushy job and throw himself back into the chaos. However, like you, I don’t think he’s coming here.

We do jobs for money. We work, they pay us, we try to get more, we go home. It’s not just the money for a dude like urban. I mean, money is good, but it’s not the only thing he works for like it is for us. The dude very well might be bored out of his mind with what we would imagine is a pretty cushy gig. The competition, the drive to be the best, all that shit eats at someone like him. His coaching career ending on 12 games in Jacksonville probably eats at him too. There are lots of reasons why he may be interested in something like this.

Re: Next MSU football coach??
Skinny: The Spartans' hunt for a replacement for the fired Mel Tucker has accelerated over the last week. The school has, for now, an advantage as the only program in the market. Where the search goes remains somewhat of a mystery, though Michigan State fans and message boards have buzzed over the (far-flung) prospect of hiring Urban Meyer, who has publicly shot down such a move. One of the more obvious potential candidates, Pitt coach and former MSU coordinator Pat Narduzzi, is 2-6 this season with the Panthers. Other possible names include Washington State coach Jake Dickert, currently on a four-game losing streak; Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith, who is 23-11 in his last 34 games; Duke’s Mike Elko, who is 14-7 in his second season; and Toledo’s Jason Candle, who is on his way to a sixth winning season in eight years. Would Sparty turn to 62-year-old James Madison coach Curt Cignetti? He’s a Pennsylvania native who is 49-8 in five seasons at JMU.
Look at that beautiful list!
