The MSM is reporting Russian nuclear anti-satellite weapons.

But that makes no sense.  Kinetic weaponry would be far more effective in anti-satellite efforts than a nuclear bomb.  If anything, you could use space equivalent of a pipe bomb with shrapnel in it and execute the Kessler syndrome.  It would f-up the world pretty quickly, but it'd be cheap and effective.  Nukes make no sense in space unless you're launching them back at Earth.

So why did the intelligence committee guy leak this, and why is the MSM running with it?  They're either really bad at news or there's something else behind the scenes going on.

Nukes in.orbit either shot back at earth, but that is silly as reentey is obvious, or as EMP devices to blind a country via shutting down the power grid, communications & some electronics, though an mid atmospheric blast is more effective.

Nukes in space might sound scary but I don't trust any of what Russia says they have. The over hyped Russian hypersonic missiles are being shot down by patriots because they haven't overcome the technical challenges that would make them hypersonic over the duration of the flight.
