Constitutional Sheriffs who believe they have ultimate legal power in their county

Here's a real life spooky article from Wired posted today Oct 26 2024

MI's Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf, the same that has been investigated by AG Nessel for attempted tampering with voting machines is pictured and a featured subject.

These sheriffs from many states believe their power usurp state and Federal law.

Take back the states

The office of County Sheriff is established by the .Michigan Constitution and the duties are generally noted there, along with the power of the State Government to create more detailed duties.

The US Constitution has no provisions to directly create Sheriff's.

The office is part of the executive branch of the State Government and the Governor has the power to remove a sheriff from office with cause.

Don't worry guys, the know-it-all is here to answer questions nobody asked! We can all rest easy.

You are? So...we are waiting to be enlightened.

Every state has laws on the books or some kind and no states to my knowledge have the power characters like Dar Leaf and other “Constitutional sheriffs” claiming they are answerable to no state or Federal laws/rules can cause some real problems.

If you live in states with Pro-Trump governors and GOP majority legislatures I have no doubt that a U.S. DOJ is going to interfere with anything the Constitutional sheriffs do to help them politically?

It’s a brave new world where the SCOTUS has ruled a sitting POTUS has immunity. Don’t think laws on the books mean a damned thing to Dar Leaf and other like him.

Whitmer should start cracking skulls. This guy and that guy in Howell that allowed trump to campaign at his station. I really wish we'd go on offense like that for the bad apples that hate this country and should not be in charge of anything

I thought Leaf got in a bit of hot water over his attempt to get voting machines and had to back down. Maybe I'm misremembering.

A slap on the wrist and he built in enough deniability so one of his off duty deputies got a reprimand. Investigation might be ongoing.

Meanwhile he's in Las Vegas, FL and other places peaching his venom.
