2 things I've noticed about social media that are becoming ridiculous
By social media, I guess I primarily mean Twitter, since it seems to drive everything else.
I like the twatter. Great way to filter and receive content that interests you. But a couple of things are getting a bit out of control, IMO.
1. The rush to report news. Example - the prematurely reported death of Joe Paterno. With twitter, anyone can report that they have "sources" verifying some fact. And before you know it, everyone is running with it. Most recent example of something that was relevant to my interests was the David Price trade. One of the national guys tweeted "Sources say Price to Tigers is done" or something. Within 5 minutes, everyone else was running with this as fact. What if the source was wrong, as they were when they reported Paterno died? It's kinda comical. Twitter allows stories to break that haven't actually broken, without any kind of verification.
2. The moral conscience lynch mobs are getting totally out of control. Every day they have a new fuck ing crusade. They harp and harp, driving news stations, sports mega networks, print journalists, and everyone else to demand something. A firing. A resignation. They want blood. It gains more and more momentum, until the entity in question feels the pressure and has to quit/get fired/whatever.
I am not sure if this is good or bad, per se. What I find most amusing about it is that once it happens, they immediately move on to the next target, and basically completely forget about the cause they believed so strongly in 24 hours ago. Roger Goodell is a prime candidate here. I don't really care myself whether he steps down or not. I won't lose any sleep over it. But this thing is totally gaining momentum over the Ray Rice thing. Watch the pressure get to the point where this reaches a boiling point and he has to resign, or the owners feel the need to fire him. I totally expect it to happen at this point. Will be fun to sit back and watch.
Who is next on the hit list?

I blame MTV. That's why most people under 50 have the attention span of a gnat. Heck even I didn't even read your entire post.

I bet Goodell is gone by the weekend.
Danny Ferry is next.

Haha, Nigel. I called out Danny Ferry yesterday as the next target, but by mid afternoon I realized that the target had shifted to goodell. For sure Ferry is next, unless someone steals his spotlight.

The thing that really bugs me about social media is when people take to social media to bitch about social media.

See, for me, it really bugs me when people bitch on social media about other people bitching about social media.

I love the twits, and YourAnonNews is a very interesting thing to follow on twitter. I'm sure that has me under surveillance, but I find it interesting to see how far in advance they are from other media outlets.
