Swillers, I need some talking points to help convince my wife to let me fly back for the scUM game

You: I'm going to the SCum game.
Your wife: How come I never get to have a weekend alone?
You: What's stopping you from doing something?
Your wife: Blah, blah, whole world on my shoulders, blah blah, you don't ever help, blah blah.
You: Choose a weekend that you want to do something and I will take care of business.
Your wife: i want to do something the weekend of the SCum game.
You: I'm going to the SCum game.  Choose another weekend.
Your wife: Why do you have to go on so many trips to the Grand Canyon?
You: My girlfriend lives there.  She has a nice cave.  I like caves.
Your wife: You give up a trip to the Grand Canyon and I will give in on the SCum game.
You: No.  I'm going to the Grand Canyon and the SCum game.  You need to choose a weekend.
Your wife: Why do I only get one weekend?
You: You can have as many as you like.
Your wife:  Where are you going?
You: To the SCum game.  In the amount of time it took to argue about this the game day has arrived.

I'd suggest getting your affairs in order. You know, since divorce is inevitable.

2) Not staying at the casino until 4am or later.
3) Spend time with them.
4) Don't let my mom do everything.

I'm not sure what to say. She's going to DC in about a month to a friends bday party.

Seriously, this. I do a few games a year and a couple of trips with the guys every year and when she started bitching I had her plan some girls weekends. So every August and April she heads out of town for a long weekend and in return doesn't give me crap for all of my trips. And if she wants to do any other trips, IDGAF.

The whole, "you can do whatever you want anytime you want while I stay home with kids" is played by every wife. And like the poster said above- you always answer, "I'm not stopping you from having a girls weekend". It works. Don't get neutered bro. No going back if you let her win this early in life.

I see from your other thread that she is also getting your credit card statements. This is not looking good for you. Unfortunately, this should have all been agreed upon in a prenuptial.

Personally, I try to keep most of my communication with my wife to texts messages and emails. It helps to get confirmation as far in advance as possible. At this point maybe just forward your flight information as if you thought she had already agreed to it.

Everyone should be free to have an obsession or two.  Is your wife may lacking and jealous in that department?

Grandma/Grand-Daughter sounds like a plan.  Make sure Granny keeps the daughter overnight.  And, feed your wife's obsession, or help her find one.

"Set the tone" is balanced. 

Why can't your wife spend time away from your daughter? Is there a legitimate reason for it or does she just do that so she can guilt you?

What I might try to do is tell her that if she's fine with you going to EL for the Michigan game, then you'll take your daughter for a weekend so your wife can have a trip doing something she wants to do by herself. I bet if it was something like an even tradeoff, she'd be more willing to let you make the trip.

Lots of assumptions by the respondents thus far. I think the key to your approach lies in the reasoning for your wife's attitude.

Does she have the desire to ever do something without your daughter? Does she want to go on a girls trip ever?

In other words, is it a matter of equality in her mind - she wants to do stuff but doesn't get to, and you get to do stuff all the time?

Or is it something else. Is it something like - she doesn't really have a desire to do that stuff and wishes you wanted to spend more time at home with her/your daughter.
