Best states to live in per their residents; Michigan ranks #46
The results are based on a special 50-state Gallup poll conducted June-December 2013, including interviews with at least 600 residents in every state. For the first time, Gallup measured whether residents view their states as "the best possible state to live in," "one of the best possible states to live in," "as good a state as any to live in," or "the worst possible state to live in."
Montana is #1. Rhode Island is last.

There may be a correlation with stupidity there, too.

Not surprising that a lot of the states that scored highly are states which contain only people that want to live there. If the top 4 states were so great, more people would live there and if the 72% of people that didn't think Michigan was one of the best states moved, Michigan would have a population in line with a bunch of the "top" states and rate just as highly.
Most polls these days are worthless. Terribly vague questions, small sample sizes and absolutely no statistical analysis other than simple addition/subtraction/division/etc.

This list is almost as bad as the one about the nation's sexiest schools that includes Yale in the top 10. Sauce so weak.

EDIT: Dumbasses didn't even put pics of chicks so here's Oregon Cheerleaders who were not on the list.

I think they do. I think the second column is a subset of the 1st column.

After my graduation from MSU, I lived in Montana for a while before moving to Wyoming. Lived in Alaska my entire life before college.
I'd still give my left arm to move back to the midwest. (I'd give a few fingers or toes to move back to Alaska.)

Michigan residents remember the way things used to be. Good paying jobs were plentiful and you often didn't need a college degree. Just show up, do your 30 years and leave with great medical care and a pension. Just in our side of the state no only did GM close 3 plants, the surviving one has about 400 workers instead of the 3500 that worked there in the 60's/70's/80's, Steelcase has 75% fewer workers, Pfizer cut Kalamazoo to about 15% of what it was in 1990.
It will take another generation before we adjust to the new normal.

Nothing wrong with MI as long as you can find a job.

46 seems low. How many states are there?
