Turns out OSU might have been slightly motivated by that loss we dealt them last year. Who knew?

Good point. Furk.
They're athletes are just showing supreme right now. They run through contact, they're getting off blocks and dominating the LOS. It's scary.

This is like when you have a dynasty on NCAA Football on the 360 and have 3 or 4 recruiting classes of only 5 stars. Speed all over the place and multiple dynamic playmakers. This is their 3rd string QB!
Worst part of all is that all these kids are underclassmen for the most part.

We'll be pretty fucking good next year, too, though. And I have a lot of faith in our coaching staff. Heat's point is a very good one, though. Motivation is a big key when both teams are pretty good. I think last year we were the hungrier team and they definitely were this year. If they win the conference and get in they might not be as on point next year when we play them in the Shoe.
But what sucks is that once again, the entire year is going to come down to that game.

This is where the other thread about the committee tipping their hand rings true. They can't realistically drop 1 of the top 4 now if they don't lose, but I'd say Ohio State deserves to be in over TCU and Baylor.

Imagine if OSU wins, and FSU wins and OSU gets left out. B1G could have a great shot to sweep their committee bowl matchups with OSU in the Fiesta/Peach/Cotton and MSU in the Orange against GT.Heat Miser wrote:
FSU looks like the worst of all the top teams today, yet they won't be left out if they're undefeated. GTech needs to beat them. Somebody's gonna get left out and have a legitimate beef. Probably OSU.
That would be awesome for both of us going into 2015, and it would really help the B1G.

Re: 2014 CFB Championship Weekend Games...
Delany did a great job with the divisions...this Wisconsin team is the best of the West?
OSU and MSU are better, and PSU and Michigan are both primed to rebound a lot quicker than Nebraska and have higher ceilings than Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.
This game just shows how badly the B1G screwed the pooch by putting MSU in the East. I don't know how much better Wisconsin can get under Andersen, or Nebraska under Riley, but I don't think it's the level of Dantonio at MSU or especially Meyer at OSU.

I agree somewhat, but you have to think - did Delany/brass truly think MSU had staying power? Do we? If you look at the big picture of the past decade, OSU and Wiscy were the top 2 teams in the Conference, and they wanted to guarantee that UM-OSU played the last week of the year without mandating cross-division rivalries because of where the conference might go in the future.
If things stay as they are for the next ~ 5 years, they may have to rethink things.

Me neither, I think we'll be just fine as long as we have Coach D. I'm saying the divisions are pretty imbalanced because Delany was being shortsighted/discounted MSU as usual.Heat Miser wrote:

Re: 2014 CFB Championship Weekend Games...
sorta buzzed rambling.
If I had to rank the top teams in the country, here's what I think I would say. Not in terms of who I am guessing is best, in terms of what we know.
1. FSU. Sorry, they are undefeated. You can't guess who is better than other people if those teams haven't played. One team has beaten every team on their schedule for going on 2 years. I hate them, but fuck you, pay me.
2. Oregon. Eyeball test tells me this is the best team in the country, but they have a home loss. They were able to avenge that loss.
3. OSU. I thought they were the best team in the country with JTB. I discount their loss because of circumstances, and they have more than avenged it. They have proven that they were not a 1 man team.
4. Bama. They won their conference and navigated a decent conference with 1 loss. I'm kind of indifferent to them vs. TCU and Baylor, but they won a Championship. Bama beat: WVU, Miss State, LSU, Auburn, Mizzou. No great wins but some pretty good ones. TCU beat: Minn, WVU, Kansas State, Oklahoma. One less win. Baylor beat KSU, TCU, Oklahoma. Two less "good" wins but 1 "really good" win which to me equates to one more good win. So they're on par with TCU but not quite up to Bama's schedule, but barely. And I do have to give Bama extra points for winning a division and then a CCG.
5. TCU/Who Cares
6. Baylor/Who Cares
7. MSU

I love it. Committee is so ****ed right now cause they kept buying the mantra all year long that the BiG sucks. But in reality, the BiG has 2 of the top 8 teams in all of the land. Now what? You gonna leave a marquee program out right after they won their conf title game a million to zero? Good luck with that. It's why the whole rankings bullshit is idiotic in early Nov.

Re: 2014 CFB Championship Weekend Games...
Thinking about this more because of all of the ranting on twitter. IMO to rank the top "four", you should rank the best of the rest so you can measure how those top teams vying for the playoff berth fared most accurately.
Let's assume no major conference 2 loss teams are ahead of one loss teams, 3 loss teams ahead of 2 loss teams, 4 ahead of 3, etc. unless the playoff committee has already pegged them in an order. Let's use the most recent playoff rankings as a guide. Assuming the top 6 are made up of the 0 and 1 loss teams:
7. MSU (2L)
8. MSU South (2L)
9. Ole Miss (3L)
10. GT (3L)
11. KSU (3L)
12. Georgia (3L)
13. Arizona (3L)
14. UCLA (3L)
15. Arizona State (3L)
16. Mizzou (3L)
17. Clemson (3L)
18. Auburn (4L)
19. Louisville (3L)
20. Wiscy (3L)
21. Boise (2L)
22. Utah (4L)
23. LSU (4L)
24. USC (4L)
25. Minnesota (4L)
Rough guesses but gives us some measuring sticks.
Now let's consider how the 1 loss teams fared against the current top 25. Nothing else counts as a "good" win imo.
Bama - L @ #9, W @ #23, W vs. #8, W CCG vs. #16
Oregon - W vs. #7, L vs. #13, W @ #14, W @ # 22, W CCG vs. #13
TCU - W vs. #25, L @ #6(?), W vs. #11
OSU - L vs. UR, W @ #7, W @ #25, W CCG vs. #20
Baylor - L @ UR, W vs. #3(?), W vs. #11
Worst loss of the above - by far OSU, followed by Baylor loss @ UR WVU
Best win of the above - Toss up between OSU @ #7 and Baylor vs. #3 (@ Baylor)
Quality road wins - Bama 1, Oregon 2, OSU 2, TCU 0, Baylor 0
Total # of quality wins - Bama 3, Oregon 4, TCU 2, OSU 3, Baylor 2
Intent of OOC Scheduling rank (subjective) - Going to say Tie (first) between Oregon (MSU), Bama (WVU), OSU (Navy, Cincy, Va Tech), then TCU (Minnesota), then Baylor (no one). Remember no one knew how good the above teams were going to be when they were scheduled. TCU shouldn't get a bunch of credit for being willing to play Minnesota at home, and Oregon shouldn't get a ton of credit for playing a home and home vs. MSU because we weren't considered any better of a program than VT or WVU when it was scheduled.
Just some semi-objective info to use.
Oh, and to compare FSU:
Quality road wins - 1 (@ #19)
Total # of quality wins - 3 (vs. 17, @ #19, vs. 10)
Intent of OOC Scheduling - 1A (Ok St, Florida, ND)

Re: 2014 CFB Championship Weekend Games...
The more I think about the above it's not really fair to count Minnesota as a quality win without counting Oklahoma. They will probably be 25 and 26 in the poll or somewhere right near there.
In that case, boost quality wins for TCU and Baylor by 1 each to 3, and add a quality road win for Baylor, giving them 1 (vs. 0).
I still think OSU has the best case due to 2 quality road wins, and their loss occurring when they were a very different team.

Screw the Big 12. They took the chicken shit way out. They named co-champs instead of following their own tie breaker rules. They want the playoff committee to essentially decide their champion. I'd leave both TCU and Baylor out. Put OSU in. They had to play an extra game.
