What are you reading right now?
What's everybody reading/audiobooking?
Currently:
Breakfast of Champions- Kurt Vonnegut
About halfway through and am a huge fan. So many good quotes and really funny.
The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger- Stephen King
First King novel and am still getting used to his writing style. Not too far in yet either.
Recently Finished:
A Dance of Dragons (ASOIAF 5)- George R. R. Martin
Not that anyone needs a review on GOT but if anyone is watching the show and hasn't read the series, it's absurdly good.
Wyrd Sisters (Disc World 6)- Terry Pratchett
Checked out Disc World after hearing about Pratchett passing. Lots of dry British humor and just a fun read. Will definitely check out more from the series.
Fahrenheit 451- Ray Bradbury
Top notch dystopia book. Kind of freaky how old this book is and how close it seems we're getting to some of the elements in it.
Next Up:
No Country for Old Men- Cormac McCarthy
The Sound and the Fury- William Faulkner
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas- Hunter S. Thompson
Ready Player One- Ernest Cline
The Goblin Emperor- Sarah Monette

Re: What are you reading right now?
The Dark Tower really couldn't be further from King's writing style in most of his books before then. It felt like I was reading another author.
Currently: King and Maxwell, Baldacci, 2013.
Last read: Worth Dying For, Reacher #15 from 2010.
Next: probably The Shadow Patrol by Alex Berenson 2012. Highly recommend this guy.

Re: What are you reading right now?
Just finished Breakfast of Champions. The absolute funniest satire book I've read. Could not recommend this more. Vonnegut is amazing.
Now about 70p into No Country for Old Men. Really enjoying this one so far. Haven't seen the movie either so I'll have to finally get around to watching that after.
Also just started Pandora's Star (Commonwealth 1) by Peter F. Hamilton.

Love these books. There's been talk about making a tv series and/or movies out of them for years. It would be cool if they finally did get a deal done. Eastwood is too old to play Roland now. I could see Liam Neeson filling that role.
Wishful thinking though, probably won't ever happen at this point.

I could definitely see Liam Neeson. If they wanted someone younger I could also see Timothy Olyphant being a good fit.

Book thread
Anyone read any good books lately?
I'm starting the Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. Really looking forward to it. Last book I sat down and really read was Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and I really enjoyed that one.
Figured to start a thread about it so people can share what they're reading, or what books they'd recommend, if they read books for fun.

Re: What are you reading right now?
Read "Finders Keepers" by Stephen King and it sucked ass. His book "Revival" which was out last year was much better.
Recently read "Deal" Bill Kreutzmann's autobiography which was ok and also read Al Michaels' autobiography "You Can't Make This Up" which was really good.
Just started Kim Stanley Robinson's "Aurora".

What did you like about Atlas Shrugged? I found the writing clunky, the characters poorly developed, and the message flawed. I know it's a lightning rod for ideologues of all stripes, but regardless of that, it was just badly written in my opinion.

A friend of mine recommended it to me when I was really down on life because of grad school and some other things out in Washington.
I really identified with Hank Rearden. The whole working your ass off, so people that aren't very good can prosper at your expense thing, and wanting to be rewarded for your efforts really struck me. I really hate welfare, and getting taxed for tons of stuff that I'll never get a benefit from (yay state of NY). The speeches about love and money (one of my favorite book speeches ever) seemed to really appeal to me, as did John Gait's speech at the end. And man, did I want to just go to where Hank Rearden and Dagny Taggart went to. The idea of a place like John Gait's paradise sounds so goddamn appealing. I don't know, many of the messages in the book really appealed to me. I also think it's right in that there's three kinds of people: looters, moochers, and producers.
I don't think it's written well, but I think the message and the content really appealed to me. Reading that book felt incredibly empowering, and really helped me begin to crawl out of a pretty depressed time in my life and helped me change my outlook on people. Probably the most impactful book I've ever read.

Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe, but I didn't know this thread existed and made a book thread.
Might have to merge them if someone here has that power.

Adding links to make it easier to check out stuff.
Just finished City of Stairs  and Sword of Rhiannon. I thought City of Stairs was really good (a little youth novely at times) and am definitely going to check out the sequel scheduled to be released in January, City of Blades.
