want to discuss Msu sports?
I want to discuss sports but I read on trcmb that isn't allowed here and is frowned upon. That true?
You'd think with a open forum every thing could be discussed openly with opinions from all sides. Crazy takes included. Especially when the vast majority of us are sports fans.
What am i missing?

What teams do your slam pieces usually root for? Are they usually bandwagon Heels fans?

I nominate Blanch for the beat writer position during football season.
We're going to have one of those, right?

I've always felt that it's too bad that the off-season on Michigan State forums always turn into conversations about everything but Michigan State. Here on the Beaumont Board, 90% of the threads are clearly off-topic. Many of the other "big boards" at other universities...they rabidly talk about their sports programs 24/7/365. Are MSU sports just not popular or interesting enough to warrant such dedicated off-season conversation?

Re: want to discuss Msu sports?
What is there to talk about? None of us have to be talked into being MSU fans next year. For the most part I think MSU fans wait to see what the 'product on the field' looks like before jumping to conclusions. The MSU coaches are pretty tight lipped with any news, and any news is pedestrian at best, so there isn't a lot to talk about IMO. We know that we'll have a 4-3 base, there are questions with the interior D-line and LB is the biggest question mark, while our secondary has to replace the best CB MSU has ever had. The offense is supposed to be improved and might have to carry the team at the beginning of the year, but if the D can reload, then MSU has a great chance to do something fabulous next year. Meanwhile, no one is really sure how anything is going to look because of injuries and fall camp that haven't started yet.JackTalkThai wrote:I've always felt that it's too bad that the off-season on Michigan State forums always turn into conversations about everything but Michigan State. In Bball there are a lot of people that are nervous, but most everyone is expecting next year to be somewhat of a rebuilding year. Not much is known of the incoming recruits (ok I don't know much) and Izzo missed on all or most of his Plan A recruits.
The women's golf team made it to the NCAA's and I believe they won the B1G.
No one really gives a shit about college Bball north of the Mason-Dixie line.
The hockey team isn't that great.
Do we have lacrosse?
I don't think disc golf is a NCAA sport yet.

Does MSU have a bowling team these days? I started playing about a year ago and would enjoy watching if they have one.
Edit apparently they do: http://www.collegebowling.com/teams/playerlist.asp?SchPL=S0103

Good question. Down here no one really follows sports like they do in the midwest/east coast. So yes, major bandwagon factor. Although I did date chick who was a bengal fan b/c she shared a last name w/ Carson Palmer....

simple: we have lives. Moreover, other than Michigan and possibly Florida, we are the one school who follows 2 sports, so come summer time, we are pretty tapped out--especially if our hockey team gets rolling again.
That and we have lives and other interest mainly b/c we are mostly college educated and not simply bandwagoners.

I would rather have our delightfully strange, occasionally hilarious OT season than spend every minute on the board talking about crooooooooootin', etc.

No, we're the school that in Mid January had a football team that was 13-1 and a basketball team that was 13-1 and both were ranked in the top three in America in their sport. We love them dearly and are passionate about them.
Here's the difference: Most of us actually have a degree from MSU or for the few who don't, they are very smart and we all have lives outside of sport. We love our school, but MSU has always been a very diverse university and the people who are on the boards affiliated with them are interesting and intelligent and can talk about other things. It's what makes being a Spartan so damn cool.

I think there are several reasons why.
1. Most MSU fans don't seem to be obsessed with teenage boys.
2. We have a lot of posters which means a lot of subjects are covered, and you can only talk about our 3rd string free safety so many times.
3. This place is more of a community of long-time posters with decade-plus old jokes, rather than a message board full of random user names like most other places. It's more like hanging out at the neighborhood bar.

Come on dude, you know the most important time of the year is coming up, the June recruiting championship! UM has won it most years but I'm feeling good about MSU's chances this year. I think we should discuss the differences between recruiting the high 3 stars vs. the 4/5 stars.

It's good to be here. I was wondering WTF tSwill was when I saw it mentioned a few times on the tRCMB, so I googled it and here I am. I like what I'm seeing so far, 24/7 is unfortunately a disappointment.
