I've heard people say that the two things aren't related. As if knowledge of how to protect yourself from STDs is divinely inspired. THE REASON ITS COMMON KNOWLEDGE IS WE WERE ALL TAUGHT IT!!!

I applaud that high school. Sex ed class was such a waste of time.

That's quite a leap you've made there. And getting a driver's license provides immunity from car accidents.

Why add it to the headline then? Why not just "Chlamydia Outbreak Hits Texas High School"? The headline writer was trying to infer something, what was it? Of course he/she was trying to say that if only those damned hicks had sex ed they wouldn't have had this outbreak.
If you disagree that was the intent then why didn't the headline say "Chlamydia Outbreak Hits Texas High School with shitty football team"? Or perhaps "Chlamydia Outbreak Hits Texas High School with no German classes"?

I think the point that is trying to be made by Heat and the writer is that not having sexual education in 2015 is fucking asinine Will it totally stop STDs? Obviously not, no one said that, but can it help? Chances are high..

3 students out of an enrollment of 294 have contracted chlamydia. Holy shit man, that's just over 1% of the student population! I wonder if they'll quarantine the town? What if the "outbreak" goes airborne?
For comparison, just under 1% of high school soccer players will become professionals in that sport...though I haven't heard about that outbreak yet.

Did you actually get anything out of sex ed class? It was boring and usually seemed to consist of some dumb outdated movie.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:I think the point that is trying to be made by Heat and the writer is that not having sexual education in 2015 is fucking asinine Will it totally stop STDs? FWIW, Texas also has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country. Damned hicks indeed.

How many years out of high school are you? 20? Remember that you are talking to a 22 year old kid before you keep this conversation up... Your experiences may have varied. Maybe, shit, I dunno.

You're one of those folks who has trouble with numbers aren't you? 3 cases in 2 weeks. At that rate, nearly a quarter of the students would have it in a year. And probably some of their parents & relatives. After all, it is Texas.
The idea is to contain the outbreak before it becomes a crisis.

Re: Chlamydia Outbreak Hits Texas High School With No Sex Ed
The article notes that all the surrounding counties are amidst and "outbreak" as well. Why would sex ed in Crane county have prevented an outbreak if it didn't in neighboring communities?
Detroit schools have sex ed, yet it has the highest teen birth rate in the Western world.
Some of you act as if sex ed isn't taught in school that none of the kids will be aware that sex can result in pregnancy, or that sexual activity can spread diseases. Or that by having sex ed, teen pregnancy and STD's cease to exist.

What's the downside to having a one semester one hour class about sex ed?

They should make it an elective like ceramics or woodshop or something. It shouldn't be mandatory.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:I just don't really get why people don't want others to be as educated as possible.

Why not? Sex isn't a specialized trade. Well... in this context it isn't.

Oh wow. That would suck. Here's what we should do... We should vehimately fight against that. Then we should watch as teenage pregnancy inevitably rises (even if sex ed only effects 1 out of 500 kids, that's like 10,000 fewer pregnancies nationwide, but whatever, who cares. Hell.) Then, we'll sit tight for 5 years. Once that time is up we will complain about how we have to pay welfare for all of these unwed teenage moms. Maybe pass some drug testing legislation or something. The whole time we'll say things like "if they wanted to have sex they should have known the consequences" totally ignoring the fact that we didn't want to make sure that they knew the consequences. Because, you know, hell.

That parent isn't going to have his head in the sand. He is going to have the immoral school districts balls in a sling about the fact that their precious is "being encouraged by the school go be a promiscuous sinner." So, the free condoms go away. We would be left with nothing.
