Re: Ricky!
I quit watching while Fowler was signing his card, never figured Garcia or Kisner would catch him.

Yeah it was pretty cool. I love Ricky. Seems like a good kid. Same with Rory and Spieth. PGA is in good hands going forward. Hopefully all of the Tiger slurpers can embrace the next generation.

The golf channel app had a tiger tracker every day on its first page. Dude was T77 on Saturday.

Re: Ricky!
Tiger was a great player. For sure. "Was".
But let's be frank, the only reason people got excited about him (despite him being the 2nd best or best player ever) was because he is like 1/8th black. Even though personality-wise he's whiter than Mickelson or any other dude out there. And also a bigger asshole than any of them. If, say, David Duval had taken off and won 14 majors, golf would not have seen near the boost that it did in this country and globally. Tiger's skin being dark somehow made golf cool for awhile.
I am not bemoaning that as a negative thing. It's a great thing. I just hope that people continue to embrace the sport, despite Tiger barely being relevant.
Weird dynamic.

Excellent comparison. Double D is an asshole. He's softened a bit over the years and his life's story is actually 1000 more interesting than tigers. So they basically have the same personality, yet one of them gets coddled by the media. Obviously you can't take from tiger what he's achieved and it does lend validity to the coverage and hype he got. Luckily for the media, he backed up what they gave him. That was then, this is now. Its tiresome now without the results.

Duval disappeared for about 10 years. It isn't until recently that I started seeing him again. The media isn't going to cover a guy who was competitive for 4 or 5 years, than retires or disappears to do whatever he did (I heard something about snowboarding equipment). The closest is Phil. Tiger was on pace to beat Niklaus record. He outshot a field of the best professionals, by what, about 18 shots in a US open. Tiger also sort of opened up golf to everyone. Here came a guy who broke the mold, he dominated the sport of old white WASP's and for the most part there wasn't much said off the course. He was also American. Golf wants to anoint the 'next' great, when the greats only come along every 20 years or so instead of letting it manifest itself organically.
Anyway, good for Ricky.

Sounds like a fun OT season game. I'll be Sinatra, because he must've pulled a lot of strange over his lifetime.
