Michigan, Michigan State make trimmed list of Flint’s Deron Irving-Bey

FLINT, MI – Southwestern football standout Deron Irving-Bey was officially honored as a U.S. Army All-American on Thursday afternoon.

The state’s top defensive end also shared some updated news about his recruiting.

Nothing has changed as far as when his announcement will happen. Irving-Bey is still planning for after his senior season, but he has narrowed the list.

Out of more than 20 Division I offers, both in-state powerhouses have made the cut.

“Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Tennessee and my fifth college was Howard, but I haven’t been talking to them lately, so I’m thinking about Syracuse,” Irving-Bey said. “That’s a very great college.”

Irving-Bey has a 3.3 grade-point average, and his initial career plan was to become a male nurse - a career that football may be now changing. None of his planned visits are etched in stone just yet, but he is pretty set on where he wants to visit.

It's always mattered. Just can't stack shit classes in a row ehich is what we did in 2012 and 2013. This is the result. Our 2027 class blows. Need a huge 2018 class.

And with MSU not having good coaching, it gets magnified.

No one knows anything about a recruiting class. Star ratings would have told you that our '09, '10, and '11 classes "blew", also. They did not. Turns out our staff has a very solid track record of identifying guys that fly under the radar and pan out to be studs. Seems like there were a couple of misses, combined with a couple of character issues in the '12 and '13 classes that left us thin in our current state. Really stupid to read anything into the current or future classes based on that. If you want to look at sample size, we have more lower rated classes which bear future studs than we do classes which do not.
