MSU = Bruce Springsteen? UM = U2??

Big Ten College Football Teams as Rock and Roll Bands

Michigan: U2
They’ve been around a long, long time and saw their biggest rise to stardom take place in the 1990s. They are massive, loud and really good but sort of sanctimonious (always) and basically hollow for the last decade. They are good enough to love easily but holier than thou from time to time.

Michigan State: Bruce Springsteen
Is there a more blue-collar program in the country that has been more successful riding the work ethic train more than the Spartans? This has been a quality product in many different decades and appeals to the hard-working, middle class. And both have produced some serious Hall of Fame tracks.

FYI - these dates/setlists are from the last time Bruce played on each campus. Was at the AA show.. I was 8 years old in 1976.

sweet - wasn't aware of that. I have a bootleg from that show, I believe - because there is an amazing performance of "For You" on it..

looks like it was at Munn - and different setlist form the one boot I have

I hate seeing the Grateful Dead and Rush be given those schools, but that's because I just really like both bands.

UM as U2 is perfect. Also think Northwestern as Wilco is good as well.

the version of "Backstreets" from the 1976 show in East Lansing didn't include the iconic "Sad Eyes" interlude - which went on to become "Drive All Night" on The River.

For the most part, the Sad Eyes part of Backstreets was a staple on the Darkness tours of 77-78- most notably the December show at Winterland in 1978.. check it.
