ya think? I've often thought it was one of the most shameless appeals to white suburban America I had ever heard.. the movie is unwatchable because of the soundtrack.DWags wrote:Still one of the best around. Yep.

Costner was great in that movie.
And it's not unwatchable because of the soundtrack, it's unwatchable because of the Michigan football references. Terrible. But, it's been that long since UM was any good...so kind of funny, amirite?

I haven't seen it in many years - but even then, it just seemed very contrived and a brazen appeal to the yuppie generation. Of course, if you're a yuppie in recovery, I suspect you find it somewhat engaging.

Meh, the only two characters with redeeming value in that movie were the non-=UofM people. I know it's hard to watch, but I was laying on the couch with my hand held, the daughter had the remote, gets up and says "I'm going to my friends" and left it on the channel the Big Chill was on. I was too lazy to get up to change it, so I read my hand held and had the movie on. Wife comes home from the CD release party and Im' still on the couch with the movie on and she stops in the room looks at me and says "Oh, you're watching the big chill, I love the sound track of this movie." I say "yep, it's good".
Movie was kind of dumb, but so were a lot of old movies.
In that movie:
Guy who owns house Kevin Klien: Give's out insider trading information
HIs wife Glen Close: Had been sleeping with the dead guy
William Hurt: Drugged out useless psychiatrist who hates life
Lawyer, Mary Kay Place: Wants a baby out of marriage cause she's selfish, willing to sleep with a number of men that weekend to get pregnant.
Jeff Goldbum: Horrible people magazine writer
Tom Berenger: Shitty actor divorced and wants to sleep with a married woman
Jo Beth Williams: Married woman, whose husband leaves after funeral and wants to sleep with Berenger
The two Non-UofM grads:
Meg Tilly: Girlfriend of the dead, never judges anyone, enjoys life, and respects everyone
Don Galloway: Husband of Jo Beth Williams who has his kids as a priority and goes home to them after funeral
The UofM grads were worthless pieces of shit. Not a bad movie, not a good one. Great sound track.

Costner died. I forget what happened after that. I think they smoked some weed and there was music. Goldblum had the weed if I recall correctly. They made fun of Bo too.

Goldblum, "Worst helmets in the history of football".
They showed a UofM pass play against us, tight end goes 50 yards, but it's called back. All the uofm guys are bitching about the call and throwing shit, Meg Tilly says "no, it was clipping". Show the t.v. again and the ref says "clipping".
I noticed George Cooper running down the sidelines chansing he tight end

The best part of that movie is MSU beat UofM in that game.

at least 3-4 songs on that record can't even give writing credits because they're basically traditional front porch folk songs from Appalachia.. handed down over generations, writer unknown. Good stuff.CheesySpartan wrote:OBWAT is very good.

Actually all these "innocent black kid murders" are the biggest shameless appeal to white suburba.
