You are correct, it literally was an ubiquitous number during the 90's around EL. Much like Danzig's song 'Mother', it was a song that achieved greater popularity when it was embraced by the main stream in the 90's.

Honestly the best music was underground, Pavement and Guided By Voices.
Slanted and Enchanted, Crooked Rain/Crooked Rain, Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes.

Sloan is the sheet. Smeared and One Chord to Another. First heard them at about 3 in the morning when I had MTV on in the background while studying and they played the video for 500 Up. It was probably 1993.
