East Lansing — Coming off two straight top-five seasons and entering this year in the top 10, Michigan State has grown accustomed to getting everyone’s best shot.
Now that Michigan State has moved to No. 2 behind Ohio State, that will get ramped up on a weekly basis. And as it prepares to close out the nonconference portion of its schedule Saturday against Central Michigan, it is facing a team that knows a little something about knocking off a Big Ten team.
The Chippewas have defeated the Spartans three times, including a last-minute victory in 2009, the only season Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio finished below .500 (6-7).
And they’ll relish another shot to derail the Spartans season.

Hope this is the game where we cover the point spread. Very achievable if we can step it up and deliver the tko punch in the late quarters.

Interesting stat: CMU has given up 26 TFL so far this season, tied (with Missouri) for fourth worst. Only App. State, Kent State and Temple have more.
With our D-line hopefully we can have many 3-and-outs and give our offense time to find its rhythm.

The good news is that we don't have to worry about making Enos look bad in this game, so pedal to the metal.

I think Central exists to make sure MSU always remain humble. It's interesting that our last two coaches to get us to the Rose Bowl both lost to Central while at MSU.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:That was not a good day.

I almost feel that we will shut them out. I really feel like this is the game when it all comes together. Offense. Defense. Special teams. If you mess with the Spartans you know what I mean.

Cooper Rush (QB from Lansing Catholic) puts up good numbers for CMU, but they are not an extremely talented team. However, while more up tempo than they were under Enos, it appears CMU is playing a more physical game under first year coach John Bonamego. CMU played both OkState and Syracuse tough.
Overall, CMU is not going to out tough MSU in this game and they certainly do not have the talent and speed (think Antonio Brown) they had in 2009. I expect MSU to be pretty dominate.
In an unrelated note, a CMU player failed to male himself popular among Syracuse fans this weekend.

I didn't realize CMU's coach has been fighting cancer.

I didn't read the story you linked, so maybe it was mentioned, but CMU lost a player this summer to cancer and their coach was diagnosed not too long afterward.
Edit: here is the story on the player.

They unexpectedly lost their team doctor/lead physician for athletics right around the same time as well. I do not think the guy was that old, and he worked at MSU at one point (I think). So it was a pretty lousy summer for CMU.

Re: tOfficial Let's Whip da Chips thread
CMU is going to be pretty tired playing both MSU and Ohio State on Saturday.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL POWER RANKINGS
1. MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS
LAST WEEK:3
RECORD:3–0
The Spartans have been the most consistently impressive team so far this season, with special emphasis on consistent—that’s what sets them apart right now. A week after an emotional win over Oregon, Michigan State bent but didn’t break against Air Force’s option attack.
Last week: Beat Air Force 35–21
Next week: Saturday vs. Central Michigan
2. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
LAST WEEK:1
RECORD:3–0
The general assumption was that while quarterback battles that linger into the season are generally problematic, Ohio State’s was an exception because its top two signal callers are so gifted. But after both Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett ineffectively moved the ball Saturday against Northern Illinois, maybe it’s not that simple. The Buckeyes are still the most talented team in the country, but until they show they’ve figured out how to utilize that talent, they don’t deserve to be No. 1.
Last week: Beat Northern Illinois 20–13
Next week: Saturday vs. Central Michigan

Should have Enos help with our scouting.
Also mt pleasant - it's not a mountain and there's nothing pleasant about the place.

Enos is only hitched to BB because he was entirely mediocre at CMU.

No. 2 Michigan State hopes to avoid slip-up against CMU
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) It's one loss that really stands out as a head scratcher in Mark Dantonio's tenure as Michigan State's coach.
In 2009, Central Michigan upset the Spartans in stunning fashion, scoring a touchdown and a field goal in the final 32 seconds to win 29-27.
''I remember that date pretty vividly,'' Dantonio said. ''We brought it up. We talked about it a little bit in terms of what went down.''

Position breakdown: Michigan State better than Central Michigan, except special teams
EAST LANSING — Central Michigan will arrive at Spartan Stadium on Saturday with visions of an upset, likely drawing some hope from the school's history of relative success against Michigan State.

Nicholson beat for 32 yards but then the defense holds - and blocks a field goal attempt.
