Sparty Hoops Dashboard

Hey everyone,

I'm an independent analyst and all around sports fan. I put together a dashboard from a play-by-play feed for everyone's enjoyment.  This dashboard highlights what are known as The Four Factors, those stats which have the most significant impact on a game’s outcome.  In addition, I put an emphasis on tempo-free stats, which you are unable to find anywhere else.  

You guys are having a great season, which seems to be par for the course for Michigan State.

The dashboard is an Excel file. It's not a trojan, I promise. If it is I'll let anybody stab me in the nutsack repeatedly with dirty syringes and broken glass.

I'm not aware of anybody else publishing tempo free stats. I've looked pretty hard and have been unable to find what I've provided.

If I was interested in hurting people, I would go to the corporate boards like SB Nation or Rivals.

I prefer the independent sites because you all are my people. :)

That's a good point you guys. There are only like 17 people here to hurt and at least 9 of them deserve it.

I'm a message board user myself (Montana State) and I prefer the overall feel and tone of the independent sites. I won't touch SB Nation or Rivals, or any corporate board.

Especially since Bill Connelly at SB Nation poached some of my stuff.

Good question.

In my development process I informally focus grouped this and gambling was a recurring response.

I developed this as a post-game companion piece and as a visual box score and at no time considered gambling.

Having said that, I see now the demand for it and I will make it a priority for next year (too late to fix right now).

What I would do is try to find a correlation between winning games and the Four Factors. I don't even know if there is one. If there is a correlation, I would then look at margin between Michigan State and the opponent to see how the winning percentage changes as the margin changes.

By the end of this year I will have thousands of games upon which to analyze. My biggest question, if there is indeed a correlation, is whether I can get historical lines to back test.
