Mufi Hunt came back from his mission early and enrolled.

So that puts us at 19 schollies needed....

24 seniors were honored on Senior Day....
3 players applying for medical red shirts (Davis, Knox, Clemons)
And at least 3 of the 24 were walk ons.

So 18 slots opening?

Conklin rumored to be staying so that slot might not open.
No other junior likely to be declaring for the draft.

I pretty much agree with you but having the insurance available does make the choice somewhat harder. If you're not risking losing millions it might be worth it to maximize your college experience.

Since Dantonio arrived MSU has been right around 21 signees per year. The high was 23 and the low was 17 and a lot of 20-21-22.

MSU doesn't seem to have a lot of roster churn. Players coming in know the likelihood of being redshirted. This high percentage of redshirt players probably helps some that don't see a lot of PT can leave with a degree.

It's not like what appears is going on in aa, Columbus of several SEC schools where if you aren't a starter or listed in the 2 deep you will be encouraged to leave so they can sign 25-27 players each year.

That's as close as my brain could calculate things this morning.  I'm certain there are errors there so any help is welcomed.  I have them arranged by eligibility not class.

I know there are a bunch of walk ons not listed, the question is who IS listed that won't be on schollie?  This shows we already have 90 committed for next year before taking any more commitments.  So IF I'm close to correct here this supports my questioning whether we're really taking 5 more commitments for next year unless there are a lot more people leaving.

Never doubted how seriously Goose takes the the scholarship availability of recruiting. It's a multi-faceted task.

4-5 years later going back to who signed, who got a redshirt, who got injured, who transferred and who is getting a medical 6th year.

That could be part of the grades issue we keeping seeing bubble up - same thing happened with Evans and Burbridge and waiting there certainly paid off.

EAST LANSING -- Michigan State's 2016 football recruiting class is shaping up as the first consensus top 20 class of coach Mark Dantonio's 9-year tenure.

The updated "Rivals 250" was released on Tuesday night, and the Spartans had several players either committed or signed in the 2016 group listed:

Corley continues to take trips.

My tin foil hat theory is Urban Meijer is going Woody Hayes on MSU.  Corley and Hill have said they could be a package deal.  

Meyer would rather sign both and see them be part of his roster churn in a couple of seasons if they don't pan out than see them in EL on the roster of the only Big Ten team to beat OSU since he arrived in Columbus.

I'm one of those folks that finds recruiting sites to be nauseating. I find the info in this thread to be much more tolerable and useful. 6'3 is a pretty damn good target.

When the incoming scholarship QB is legitimately Messiah somethings are going right.

Zeeland East and Zeeland West is a pretty good study in contrast.  The schools are less than a mile from each other.  Share the same transportation.  
Huge difference is their football.  John Shilito just won his 4th state (D4 in '06, '11 and '15 and 1 D3 in '13) with a powerful run based option offense.  So Zeeland East's coach decided to install a pass based offense.  

Zeeland East has to be attracting athletes when Dantonio extends a preferred walk-on to Barton. He's 6' 3" 185#. A year with Manne and eating right he could be 195# unless they put him on the Drake Harris program where you sign listed at 180, sign early and are listed at 174 almost 2 years later.
