Job reviews
My boss wants me to list my Objectives for next year, and my accomplishments for this year. I hate doing this shit, I've never been good at self evaluations. Here is the BS I have so far, I think 3 more drinks and I might get more creative.
Objectives: Contract management – Identify suppliers with the correct documentation and ability to provide product to reduce risk.
Supplier management – Work with outside vendors and develop them to provide the goods and services necessary to succeed.
Customer Service -
Value Management – Find the best overall product, based on quality, availability and service.
I need one more objective.
I don't have shit for the accomplishments. What I do, I find hard to quantify if I am saving the company money or not.

Re: Job reviews
If I'm your boss that all sounds like generic bullshit to me. I want measurable, quantifiable objectives.
i.e. take 20 hours of training to learn more about buying oranges
attend the Florida Citrus buyers training spectacular
Increase supplier/customer base by 20%
Obtain industry accredited buyer extraordinaire certificate
Get promoted to Sr Orange Buyer by end of Q3
.02

Re: Job reviews
Just bs that stuff. All of that shit comes from some kind of hand book. Google around and people will tell you how to fill that shit out fast.
I've noticed the latest corporate trend from some hand book is to make people do ''anonymous" surveymonkey surveys. Warning I don't buy that they are anonymous. Second if you rip the company all they are going to do is hire a motivational speaker, start doing team building exercises or make everyone read what color is my cheese.

You need better objectives. What's in your job description or contracts? Are there hard metrics in the contracts you help attain?

I want to reduce my hatred of this job by 30%
I would like to decrease the amount of micro-management in this company by 185%
I would like to play golf on Fridays with suppliers at least 3X per month. You know, to help business.

This is much better. Your first answer is usually discouraged in my company. I'm not allowed to go to trade shows, there are no promotions, there is no training.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:I want to reduce my hatred of this job by 30%

Re: Job reviews
There are no hard metrics. There really can't be, I don't give a shit what people say. There is only about 10 growers we could contract with, of that only 5 want to contact with us, of that only 3 get to the right price. Those three have to work, there are no other options.Snake Plissken wrote:You need better objectives. What's in your job description or contracts? It sounds like a small company. In which case I guess corporate jargon and metrics might not really apply. But they still probably want to see something a bit less generic.
What about learn XX software? Get certified in XX software?
Also I think you should look for a new job.

Those sound like numbers to me. Hell, what's the commodity strategy in the first place? That should dictate your senior buyer objections. Perhaps developing one to begin with would help

Not sure, there is a physical when I get there, which I would imagine consists of a drug test. Not going to fucking email and ask if they do it after I'm hyptothetically employed..might give it away

"ummm... high.. I mean.. errr "hello"... yeah. Not "high" - this is Other Teams Pursuing That. Quick question.. do you guys conduct drug test screenings on employees or potential employees? Just curious. It's not a big deal.. I'm actually conducting a survey for a local blog.. if you do, what specific drugs do you screen for? Thanks".Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:LooseGoose wrote:

I might have seen your CEO a couple of weeks ago, as I was behind a Rolls right near your building. For all the Lambos and Ferraris that I see, I don't see many Rollses.InTenSity wrote:One of the largest multinational companies in our field. I always hated those B.S. evaluations in the corporate world. It's like an interview, when you're asked "what are your biggest weaknesses", and you have to come up with some bullshit that makes a weakness sound like a positive, such as "I work too hard and am too much of a perfectionist".

though I prefer the "best fit" clause.. "they were well-qualified, pleasant and informed... but we just thought (person who got the offer) was a better fit with the department"..

Re: Job reviews
Find a way to turn each objective into something quantifiable.
Your objectives should also be directly aligned to support the organization's strategic goals.
