In all seriousness (actually, I was being serious), I found one around here but you gotta go pick up the milk during a certain time on Saturday morning. Seemed very inconvenient. I'll be looking to move to the sticks here in the next year so maybe I'll get lucky and find a cool next door neighbor that knows his/her....shit.
My parents had bought-in to what was being spread on TV, in newspapers and magazines, from "doctors". My life started out drinking whole pasteurized and homogenized then went to 2%, 1/2%, and finally skim. Was when I first got to the dorm in '77 that I realized I could not drink anything but skim...everything else tasted gross.
First time trying raw milk was from Brown Swiss cows at the Community Farm of Ann Arbor in the late 90's. Was fully expecting to hate it. Was shocked. With the skim milk thing in my head, I could hardly believe how great it was. Light, despite the full fat content. Milk like none other.
I've always drank the factory stuff, too, but I couldn't (still can't) drink anything but whole. I've had myself set on trying some raw milk just never got around to it, I guess.
It sucks that shares are the only way it's possible... it doesn't seem like a big deal, take a little 20 minute drive to get some milk. But doing that every week it would just become a chore. Especially when the times are limited (which I understand why... they got a whole farm to run).

Well. You can if you put it in a jug labeled "for pet use only". But be very careful. Ignoring Gomer and the other scare tactics....once you've had milk directly from the bulk tank you'll be ruined for other milk.
What's sold in stores as "whole" milk isn't close to the real thing.

If we're using the skim - 1% - 2% - whole milk scale that most of us raised on supermarket milk are used to... is raw milk more "whole milk" than whole milk?

Willing farmers/suppliers of raw milk have shut it down after being threatened by insurance companies.LooseGoose wrote:DWags wrote:If I milk a cow, how does shit get in it?
If you milk cows commercially and ship milk with shit in it your career will be about 2 weeks long. That's after your insurance company pays for a tanker or two of milk and the state shuts you off. There are people lined up all over to invest $500K-$5M just so they can ship milk with shit in it and lose everything.
The State of Michigan sucks, but not in a way blanch would understand. He thinks cause he made it out of podunk Midland that everyone should evacuate Michigan. Meanwhile, Oakland County is still one of the richest counties in the country and no county in Nouth Carolina is in the top 25.
edit: Sorry for the blanch tangent. Saw the dumbass ask who still lived in Michigan earlier today but couldn't find his post.

Yes. How much more depends on the farm. "Whole milk" in the store is 3.2% fat. The average farm ships 3.8%-4.0% milk with some even higher. Once milk hits the processor the fat is stripped out then added back to hit whatever they're bottling 1% 2% etc.
Cream line milk is the old term for unprocessed milk. Because its not homogenized the cream (fat) will separate in the bottle. Before you drink it you need to shake it back in.
The milk flavor will be very dependent on fat level and what the cows are eating. If you don't like the milk from one farm try another farm.

Re: More Bannings also known as tMilk, flouride, embryo, and licking shopping cart thread
150 years or so smart people discovered bacteria, AKA germs, made people ill. These germs sickened, maimed, and killed people. It was a sad world and lots of people died because of germs.DWags wrote:I'm serious. If I milk a cow are you saying I can't during it cause shit? I'd put it in the fridge, get an Oreo or three when it was cold and have at it.
Cows have germs on and in them. True story. Some of the germs come out of the butthole. With the poop. Hence, cow shit milk. Even blanch knows poop has germs in it.
Cows and farms are rife with germs. Germs in milk are bad, especially for kids and old people and people with weak immune systems because of medicine or other illness.
You can try to clean the germs off the cow... but you can't even get all the germs off your hands when you wash them in a sink with hot water. Course these are usually happy germs so no big deal. But that's why they wear rubber gloves in the hospital. Think about it... would you want some farmer who just shoveled out the stables doing surgery on you if he just gave his hands a quick rinse? The same can be said for a cow udder. It has germs on it. The germs go in the milk.
The simple step of heating the milk to 161 degrees for 15 whole seconds kills the germs. That makes it MAGICALLY safe to drink. There are no chemicals or special microscopic filters or radiation or anything. Heat. 15 seconds. Magic. Than you can put it on ice and eat your oreos with it, no problems. You can even give it to grandma and not have to worry about her playing cow shit milk roulette and dying on you. Grandma buying the farm might be ok if she's loaded, but not so much if you just keep her around to watch the kids.
There's a reason that the insurance companies won't touch this. And it's not some vast corporate conspiracy.
I can dig up my red disclaimer if anyone needs to see it again. I'm all for people drinking cow shit milk if they want. But it should be prominently labeled as a dangerous product. And you shouldn't be allowed to give it to kids, even your own (that's neglect). And you should be criminally liable if anyone is harmed because you gave it to them.
Germs is remedial elementary school biology for scum general studies major football player level stuff.

You can get "cream line" milk that has been pasteurized and is safe to drink. Homogenization and pasteurization are two separate and different processes.
You can readily buy germ free milk from the bulk tank that has not been separated and put back together again. Again. All they do to make the milk safe to drink is heat it to 161 F for 15 seconds.
What with all his years of experience I'm surprised he didn't tell you that.

Listen up dipfuck, don't call me a liar when you're inventing shit.
I never said creamline wasn't available pasteurized, you invented that.
This statement is unadulterated bullshit from end to end.
Milk in a bulk tank is not germ free. You cannot "readily" buy milk from a bulk tank that hasn't been separated. Support that statement with examples. I'm fully aware of the pasteurization laws, and it changes the flavor and composition of the milk. Just as cooking anything changes it.You can readily buy germ free milk from the bulk tank that has not been separated and put back together again. Again. Just so you're aware generally speaking when you talk of buying milk from the "bulk tank" that references ON THE FARM - I have no idea where the fuck you're talking about.

He asked of "raw milk" was more "whole" milk than whole milk was. And you said it was and talked implicitly about the homogenization process which is different. You conflated the two when they did not have to be and it was well within your capability to explain the difference between the two processes.
And you failed to comprehend my whole sentence. You can get milk from the bulk tank AKA "cream line" and heat it to 161F for 15 seconds to make it safe (skipping the processes that make whole milk less whole).
Plenty of producers are selling it this way. Do you need an example?

You're either stupid or purposefully distorting. I SPECIFICALLY referenced milk in the store which completely excludes raw milk.
Yes there are some small producers selling creamline milk but that's not the milk that is readily available to most people and more specifically when I was answering his question about milkfat levels. And BTW "milk from the bulk tank" is not readily available to consumers and you're sort of glossing over the pasteurization process.
You continue to display a profound ignorance of the effect of pasteurization on milk. You blithely state your time and temperature mantra over and over as though it changes nothing in the milk except kills all the scary little microbes that have your panties in a bunch. That's not even close to true.

It makes it safe to consume and that's what is important. That's settled science.
There is nothing in any reputable journal that says it makes it dangerous. That's for sure.
And there's nothing even in any reputable journal that says raw milk has magical health properties compared to milk heated to161F for 15 whole seconds.
There's plenty out there talking about how dangerous raw milk is though.

Raw milk is safe to consume too. There is a distinct flavor difference and at least a subtle texture difference. Cooking the milk changes it just as cooking anything changes it. There is no denying that. You continue to harp on the "15 whole seconds" thing like the milk magically reaches 161F and then just as magically is cooled again. You skip over the heating and cooling times to reach then drop from 161, those times are significantly longer than "15 whole seconds" but of course that doesn't fit your narrative.
