Which playoffs are better: NHL or NBA?
Need more opinions
Raging debate earlier today at work that's continued all night. Passionate opinions on both sides. A simple vote would be appreciated.

I couldn't name one team that is left in the NHL playoffs.

Re: Need more opinions
NBA product is currently better overall. Game is exciting with marketable players, great teams, etc. But the playoffs aren't going to get interesting until the Conference Finals, if not NBA Finals.
Nothing like Stanley Cup playoffs. Every game is do or die, tension so thick you could almost cut it with Vlad's pencil dick.
If we're talking strictly PLAYOFFS??!!, I'm going NHL all day every day.

Did you guys play hockey? I respect it but since I never played I could never develop any interest in it.

Re: Need more opinions
If you prefer parity and random outcomes that barely can be predicted by anyone and renders the regular season meaningless- nhl.
If you prefer consistently watching the best teams advance then face off against each other in a best teams steel cage death match- NBA.
Honestly, I think it's just a preference thing. Not that one is "Better than the other" just different people want different things out of their viewing experience.
I prefer the NBA model.
Edit- also, both are too long. 1/6 of the calendar year has these playoffs going on in it. Too much. Shorten regular seasons and shorten playoffs by a round to better highlight the best of the best.

Tough call. I voted NHL, but I'm having a little buyer's remorse. I enjoy watching the Warriors more than any NHL game, but I enjoy the NHL more on the whole than I do non-Warriors NBA games.

Disagree. I want less regular season and more playoffs in both sports. I feel the same way about baseball. I also think baseball games should be 7 innings long.

Dumb. The regular season is when you find out who the best teams are, in any sport (especially especially especially baseball.) That's what I'm most interested.
To be fair, again, some people might be more interested in crowning a "champion." That isn't the best team though. In many playoff scenarios (especially especially especially baseball) it turns into a random crapshoot.

Re: Need more opinions
Every pro sport playoff is a random crapshoot aside from the NBA. Best team always wins in the NBA, without fail. I admire that.
That said, it does not always make for the best theater. And with the camaraderie in the NBA across the league it certainly detracts even further from any drama.

You call it drama, I call it parity nonsense. I think we should be putting more of an emphasis on regular season championships than we do. What does winning a division really mean anymore in any sport? Not much. It should be a big deal.

I think you're interpreting the question differently than I am.
What is the definition of "better"?
Is "better" the crowning of the most deserving team?
Or is "better" the more entertaining option?

Better is better which is entirely up to you. That's why there's a poll wbh.

I don't really care about best team vs. crap shoot. I just find the playoffs much more entertaining than the regular season in the NBA, NHL, and MLB, and I want to maximize that entertainment. The EPL method of determining a champion probably more consistently rewards the best team, but that's not a system that excites me.

Games 2 and 3 of Spurs-Thunder have been excellent. I think I would change my answer to NBA if I could, by the slimmest of margins.

OT in the Stanley Cup playoffs can just about kill you. I remember the Red Wings triple OT game against the Hurricanes. I had to work the next day, and was already exhausted by the end of regulation. Every OT period left my heart pounding - every rush up the ice could have ended the game. Then, God bless 'im, Igor Larionov...Igor Fuckin' Larionov...ended my night, and sent me to bed happy, something like 3AM.
Not a chance in hell I'd stay up to watch an NBA playoff game, not even for the Pistons. Just me, though.

Polls close with NHL winning in a landslide - 15 to 8. Thanks for participating. You should be getting your "I Voted" stickers in the mail shortly

Remember the Wings/Blackhawks 1995 Western Conference finals? 3OT wins. Most exciting series ever.
