Board Approves 3.7% Tuition Hike
Michigan State University OKs tuition hikes, stays under cap
More than triple the 1.1% inflation rate for the 12 months ending April 2016 (May figures to be released tomorrow).
So glad my kids are done with it.
Students at Michigan State University face another tuition hike after its governing board approved next year's budget for the school.
After Wednesday's vote, tuition will climb 3.7 percent for freshmen and sophomores, 3.9 percent for juniors and seniors and 4.2 percent for out-of-state undergrads.
More than triple the 1.1% inflation rate for the 12 months ending April 2016 (May figures to be released tomorrow).
So glad my kids are done with it.

Gotta pay for them lights somehow. And I'm sure we'll see a ticket hike next year too.

I wonder how much authors get for writing textbooks, and how to get a textbook published/adopted as the official course book. Might make for a nice 3rd or 4th career.

Is this function of lowered non tuition revenue or increased expenses? Can't believe it's all related to reduced funding with text book prices increasing right along tuition...

Re: Board Approves 3.7% Tuition Hike
“In other words, far from being caused by funding cuts, the astonishing rise in college tuition correlates closely with a huge increase in public subsidies for higher education. If over the past three decades car prices had gone up as fast as tuition, the average new car would cost more than $80,000. . . . By contrast, a major factor driving increasing costs is the constant expansion of university administration. According to the Department of Education data, administrative positions at colleges and universities grew by 60 percent between 1993 and 2009, which Bloomberg reported was 10 times the rate of growth of tenured faculty positions. Even more strikingly, an analysis by a professor at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, found that, while the total number of full-time faculty members in the C.S.U. system grew from 11,614 to 12,019 between 1975 and 2008, the total number of administrators grew from 3,800 to 12,183 — a 221 percent increase.”

So WTF do those extra 8,300 administrators do that wasn't being done before? Probably a bunch of government compliance crap.

3.7% is actually not bad considering the recent history of these things.

Try superimposing college debt on top of that.
Gee, that's only 400% in 10 years, just wait though, Hillary is going to make college free!
