2017 NBA Draft Thread
Ridiculously early 2017 NBA Mock Draft has two Duke stars in top three
25. Boston Celtics
Miles Bridges, Michigan State
Bridges is the type of hard-nosed forward Tom Izzo has flourished with at Michigan State. He's a bit of a tweener. But so was Draymond Green, once upon a time.
Who are the top prospects for the stellar NBA draft of 2017?
1. This is a very strong freshman class
Freshmen continue to have a huge impact. NBA commissioner Adam Silver is trying to change that, but for now, one-and-dones are the true stars of the draft.
In 2016, five freshmen -- Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, Jamal Murray and Marquese Chriss -- went in the lottery. In 2017, we are projecting a whopping 12 college freshmen -- Jackson, Giles, Fultz, Tatum, Ball, Kentucky's De'Aaron Fox and Edrice Adebayo, Florida State's Jonathan Isaac, Arizona's Terrance Ferguson, North Carolina State's Dennis Smith and Omer Yurtseven and Texas' Jarrett Allen -- for the lottery.
Several other freshmen -- Duke's Marques Bolden and Frank Jackson, Kentucky's Malik Monk, Michigan State's Miles Bridges and Arizona's Lauri Markkanen -- are possible first-rounders as well.
Clearly the numbers are there. But how about the quality? Yes, that, too. I think only Simmons and Ingram would've cracked the top 10 in 2017. That's impressive.

Chad Ford's newest Mock....
Mock Draft 4.0: New top-10 picks, new lottery teams
11. Detroit Pistons
Zach Collins
Gonzaga
Freshman
Center
Collins proved he's worthy of a lottery pick with a dominant 14-point, 13-rebound, six-block performance coming off the bench for the Zags in the Final Four versus South Carolina. He added another nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks in the title game vs. UNC, but played limited minutes because of foul trouble.
And scouts look beyond the stat sheet -- though the advanced analytics are very bullish on him -- at what he did almost every time he stepped onto the court. He played above the rim, was bouncy and energetic, stretched the floor and competed with toughness.
Plus, he's used to playing with a more traditional center. In Detroit, he could make a very interesting pairing next to Andre Drummond.
Odds of winning lottery: 0.8 percent
Projected record: 37-45
12. Charlotte Hornets
Miles Bridges
Michigan State
Freshman
Forward
Bridges might be the most underrated of the elite prospects. He did it all for Michigan State -- scoring, shooting, rebounding, shot-blocking, defense.
He can be a bit wild on the court, but he has all of the tools to be effective at both the 3 and the 4. And his exciting style of play should be popular with fans.
Odds of winning lottery: 0.7 percent
Projected record: 38-44

Here is a link indicating the rookie salary cap will increase for 2018 but it won't be the windfall that had been predicted.

Re: 2017 NBA Draft Thread
Fair enough. I don't follow the Pistons at all, so I wasn't sure if it was a good thing or bad thing. I think that kid could use another year in college to put on some weight. That is based on my hazily remembering that he had a shot blocked twice in 4 seconds, but did manage to keep control.Clarett's Folly wrote:InTenSity wrote:

He'll probably get a per diem bump, but that might be it.

Fab Five 2.0? Kevin Knox gives Kentucky a starting lineup of 5-star freshmen
I didn't know about this until today - the None and done?

Five-star center Hamidou Diallo enrolled early at Kentucky this winter, but declared for the NBA draft despite not even playing. He hasn't hired an agent, but was invited to this week's NBA combine in Chicago. (A none-and-done?)

So Swanigan is still undecided with a projection of fringe 1st round.

"Jackson has flaws.
At 20, he’s older than other prospects, which leads to questions that he is close to his physical ceiling."
