2017 NFL Draft
Michigan State's Malik McDowell has towering presence in 2017 NFL mock drafts
EAST LANSING — Michigan State's football players will need razor sharp focus to contend for another Big Ten title in 2016, the nucleus of the program's golden run having moved on.
But the past few days, with the NFL draft ongoing, some Spartans likely allowed themselves to look forward to next year's draft and wonder where their value might fall.
Junior Malik McDowell figures to have the highest draft stock on the team and quite possibly the Big Ten. The Southfield High School product is a good bet to extend the Spartans' string of years with a first-round NFL draft pick to four.
The 6-foot-6, 280-pound McDowell has a similar package of size, quickness, athleticism and power that made Spartans' legend Bubba Smith a No. 1 draft pick in the 1967 NFL draft en route to a hall of fame career.
Sporting News has McDowell just outside of its 2017 NFL draft top five.

If he has a good season, he'll definitely be the #1 pick.

Malik should play quarterback for one series next year so we can finally have a QB go in the first round.

Still have a ton of prospects to study this summer but so far the best I've seen is Michigan State DT Malik McDowell.

"Top 10 ain't good enough for me," McDowell said at today's Michigan State media day. "I ain't leaving if I'm (only) Top 10. If I'm not top three, I don't leave. Really. I'm just trying to live day by day. It's one through three, that's the only way I'm going. I'm happy, I like it here, I ain't really in a rush to leave.
"The teammates I have the on-field stuff we do, the off-field stuff we do. Just good people around me. I can't complain."

McDowell, Peppers charging up Kiper’s Big Board
Michigan State defensive tackle Malik McDowell is up to No. 3 from No. 6 and Michigan linebacker Jabrill Peppers has moved into the top 10 on the new NFL draft Big Board published Wednesday by ESPN’s Mel Kiper.
Peppers, who will have two years of college eligibility remaining after this season but will be eligible for the draft, is No. 6 on the Big Board. McDowell, who will have one year of eligibility remaining, could end up being the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, Kiper says.

Malik's fall is going to hurt us in crooting more than Darqueze, Waynes, Bell's, etc success has ever helped us. The deck is stacked fellers. It's fucking annoying.

Yup. Not only that, but Dantonio has to stop being a gentleman. I know he's trying to respect the game, but that shit doesn't fly anymore. Sucks because parents and kids fall for the shiny trinkets.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Malik's fall is going to hurt us in crooting more than Darqueze, Waynes, Bell's, etc success has ever helped us. Cook's fall to the 5th round started it and he hasn't done jack in the NFL. Can't even beat out McGloin.

He's every bit as good as Butt. Don't know about his strength at that level.

Does it ever get tiring being a full blown homer 100% of the time?
No, Price is not as good as Butt.

Mayock on the NFL Draft:
“This is as good and as deep a class as I’ve seen in a draft in several years—with the exception of quarterback and offensive line. Running backs and tight ends, top end and depth are outstanding. Tight ends—I haven’t seen a group like this in years. Wide receivers, very good. Defensively, it’s unbelievable. The edge rushers … we haven’t seen a group like this in a long, long time. You’ll be able to get a starting edge rusher in the fourth round that last year or most drafts you’d compare to an edge rusher in the second round. Cornerbacks and safeties, it’s the best I’ve seen in 10 years at least.”

LJ won't be a top drafted back because he lacks speed. 4th round seems right.

Bell Ran a 4.6
L.J. runs a 4.62
Montee Ball ran a 4.66
Bell weighed 230 at the combine and did break 4.6 once. L.J. is 19 years old. Question is is L.J. a 4 down back? Bell really was/is. L.J. did show some speed on the screen against OSU can he catch as effectively? Can he block as effectively? Those are questions that L.J. has to answer for NFL scouts. Not his 40 time.

Re: 2017 NFL Draft
Few tidbits from the combine.
Mccaffrey only did 10 reps , I can do more.
Malik McDowell 6-6 1/4, 295 pounds, 10 1/2 hands. 83 inch wingspan.
Peppas 5-10 7/8, 213 pounds, 9 5/8 hands, 30 3/4 arms, 74 inch wingspan.
Also Fournette weighed in at 15 lbs over his playing weight at 240lbs... he said "its water weight"
