I live in upper Delaware near the Pennsylvania border.  We are less than an hour away from true Amish country (Lancaster, Strasburg, Ephrata, Intercourse, etc.).

I think of this thread every time we drive through that area because there are literally dozens of places that have handmade signs out front offering raw milk for sale.  I believe Pennsylvania allows raw milk to be sold at retail stores.

FWIW, milk with that long of a shelf life is ultra pasteurized.  It is heated to almost 300 degrees (a lot higher than normal pasteurization) which not only kills the bacteria that will make people sick (e coli, salmonella) but also other bacteria that can cause spoilage.

Some people believe that is a good thing, others feel otherwise.  The reality is that the human microbiome is very important but something we know very little about.
