and by "decent bars" I mean the kind that a guy like me might wanna hang out at... looks like I'm gonna find myself there in a couple of weeks for a few hours and I'll need to occupy myself with something.

Try the Atwater place. It's in an old church so you'll feel right at home. Also has a nice patio if weather permits. Corner of Kercheval and Lakepointe.

And I don't think they're rebuilding. But you could get a pail of beers with fine selections including PBR, the champagne of beers, etc. You actually had to go out of your way to get one of those fancy ones brought to your table.

ended up hangin' in Grosse Pointe for a bit.. drove around, saw a bunch of khaki-wearin', wine-sippin' type places that were adjacent to Grosse Pointe South high school... made my way back up to more of a main road.. ended up at a place called "Irish Coffee" (I think)..

it was definitely more my scene... dark - I don't think there was a window in the whole place.. with plenty of Stroh's (the Bohemia brew, now proudly brewed in Detroit).

I was back in Grosse Pointe over the weekend.. visiting a friend - nice little town. Hit up the same bar - seemed like about the only local place that I'd feel somewhat comfortable hanging out at.

need a little advice.. heading back to Grosse Pointe tomorrow to visit a friend.. leaving EL around 3:00 - should I take 969 to M-10 or go all the way toward St. Claire Shores on 696 and then down 94?

realizing the latter is more indirect but unsure of traffic on M-10.

Traffic is going the other way after 3:00. You shouldn’t have a problem. Fastest is 96 to 696 to 94 west. Soon as you hit 94 you’re at 10 mile. Go to 8 mile turn left (it’s also called Vernier). Next traffic light is Mack ave. GP. Keep going another mile GP North will be on your right then you hit the lake and turn right on Lakeshore where your buddy lives in a 6 million dollar mansion.

Are all houses on Lakeshore gonzo mansions? There was a super cute woman at 7/11 on Grove in the mid-80s who lived there before coming to State. Flirted a lot, never asked her out, mostly b/c I was working two jobs and had no time.
