OK, had some time to kill tonight. Here goes on my Tigers Future plan.

1st the payroll obligations....and it's ugly.

Assuming you want to cut payroll, gather some prospects and try to inject some youth into this team.

I would try to package attractive trade bait with duds to clear payroll and get whatever prospects you can.

So package Miggy & Anibal to Houston. Maybe Lowe with Victor to Boston to replace Ortiz? Dombrowski loved him once.
And last maybe Kinsler & Pelfrey to the Dodgers? If you could pull those trades or something like them you clear a massive
amount of payroll even if you get very little for a prospect haul.

And at least enter the season with a payroll in the $115M range and depending on how things go you have great ammo to gather prospects at the trade deadline:

Fulmer thanks mentor Verlander after winning rookie award

The Tigers just can't trade JV - this stuff alone is nearly worth keeping him.

He also praised Verlander for his mentorship throughout the season.

“He was awesome,” Fulmer said. “I remember back in spring training I was kind of nervous to go up to him because I had been watching him since his rookie year in 2006. He was one of my favorite pitchers in the game.

“But he basically brought me back to his rookie year and he told me everything he wished he would have done.”

Verlander showed Fulmer his shoulder workout routine. He should him his between starts routine. They watched each other’s bullpen sessions. Verlander even helped him with scouting reports.

“It was all stuff he wished he would’ve done as a rookie, as opposed to what he did,” Fulmer said. “Having him in the rotation helped me, Daniel Norris and Matt Boyd so much. He was an open book. I had a ton of questions and he answered every single one of them.”

Had Philadelphia kept Harrison on their 40-man roster throughout the offseason, they could have stashed him on the 60-day disabled list and recovered his entire salary through insurance.
