If Soldier Field hasn't gotten up and walked away then yes...I'd say people might make the trip there.

Mumford & Sons, OneRepublic and The Lumineers.
I like U2 but this concert sounds like hell. I heard that album so many times I have a panic attack any time one of the songs come on the radio.

Don't Let Mumford & Sons Trick You Into Liking Them
the music Mumford & Sons makes is very bad. It's overtly sincere folk rock. It's more earnest than a sophomore in college who discovered Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass for the first time and quotes it regularly. It's more pretentious than tattooing "live, laugh, love" on your leg. It's more precious than a youth pastor wearing a corduroy jacket with patches on the elbow and a fedora. It's so calculated that there's absolutely nothing unexpected, organic, or progressive that comes from the music. The sound is so bland and average that it's offensive

I'm going to the Chicago concert in June. Seen them in 2001, awesome show. Seen them again in mid 2000's and then also at Spartan Stadium. Florence + the machine put on an awesome show at SS.
The Joshua Tree was a great album, you guys are crazy.

string bands are one thing..Da Mayor wrote:Fuck banjo bands.
string bands that are formulaic and deliberately constructed to sound like a folky string band in an attempt to make LL Bean wearing suburban families feel connected to "roots" music are another.
I was at a Bar Mitzvah party a few years ago.. was talking music with this woman that lives in a McNeighborhood.. then she started raving about The Lumineers..

Re: U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017
Got tickets this morning. I'm not a fan, but my wife loves them.
So much bullshit around this concert, though. So last week, they had a pre-sale, and you needed to be a member of U2's website to get the exclusive pre-sale code. My wife bought the $50 membership just to get access to the code, went online right when the pre-sale tickets went on sale, and they were only selling $280 tickets (even for the 3rd level of Hard Rock Stadium). That, or you could buy one of the VIP packages for $400+ per person.
So we said, Fuck that, waited for the public sale today, and got 3rd level tickets for $100. Equivalent section to the ones that were $280 for the pre-sale. What a scam that pre-sale is. Everything in the first and second level were sold out. There was just 3rd level, or general admission on the field for $70. We're taking my 10-year old daughter (no pics), and figured that GA would suck for her.
Still, $100 for 3rd level in a football stadium? This isn't a case of the poors (I'd have been fine with the $280 pre-sale tickets if my wife wanted), it's the principle. I'm just glad that the bands I like are not very popular these days. An intimate setting with a few hundred, even a couple thousand, people is 100x the concert going-experience of some big sterile stadium tour.

I went to the Stevie Nicks show in Van Andel back in November (wife wanted to go.. it was a decent time) - but that was the first arena show I had been to in nearly 20 years. Instead, I'll spend 15-25 bucks on great shows at intimate venues where the artist actually knows your there.. and, hell, will drink beer after the show with you.
That's the way to go.

I was out of town.. flew back in the evening of the show and sat on the deck listening to the encore. I remember hearing "One" as clear as a bell.. pretty sweet.

Similar here. I'm a metal fan, so that pretty much lost its popularity by the early 90s. Since probably about 1993, other than a couple of Iron Maiden shows at Pine Knob, and one Maiden show at an arena down here (free tickets), I think Harpo's or the State Theater in Detroit were the largest venues I've been at for one of my concerts, and they max out at what, 2-3 thousand? Down here, the place that holds most of the metal concerts holds way less than 1,000.Robert J Sakimano wrote:100% truth.MiamiSpartan wrote:Got tickets this morning. I did take my wife to U2 at American Airlines Arena several years ago, and a couple of years ago, went to *gasp* One Direction at what is now the Hard Rock Stadium....my daughter kind of liked them, and we were given free tickets...I've never heard a more piercing, horrifying sound than 60,000 screaming girls. My ears bleed just thinking about it.

Pro-tip.... if you buy general admission tickets through the website (the $50 membership thing) you're almost guaranteed to be bumped up to the inner circle (U2 always sets their stage up with a circular catwalk that ends up in the middle of the GA area with a center VIP secton). If you're not really a fan it won't matter much, though.

I saw them on Zoo TV tour at RFK - that was enough.
On the topic of presales they only release a limited number of sections and seats. You have to pick and choose. I got some great presale seats behind the soundboard for the Roger Waters show in Dallas this summer but passed on the presale for Waters in Greensboro. Wound up buying those (behind soundboard) in the public sale.
